Entry 4 - All Grown Up (5E124)

Welcome back to Amesbury, voted this very morning Land of Pancakes by the Federal Congress. If you're a pancake aficionado, good news! Less taxes means your favourite pancakes for almost nothing! That's 20% more pancakes per pancake! Amazing! In other news, it's sunny today and a car was hit by a dog. The dog is fine, the car not so much. More at 11!

And in just four years, we've gained about 20.000 more inhabitants! The Provincial Congress of New Wigmore has granted us more land to expand on and is even considering putting us on maps! Local maps, that is. Here's a map!

There is new construction to the East on the newly acquired lands. The Crest Heights Industrial district is being moved to the Highlands Industrial District, which in time will have its own rail connection. But in the meanwhile, the landfills still need digging and removing. Only 5 bodies were found..all local politicians..Major refused to comment.

To the north, new residential districts were created and it's almost like a new town in itself. Thanks to heavy federal subsidies Amesbury is growing exponentially. It worries officials of Wittenberg, a 100.000 inhabitant town that until then was the primary investment centre in the area. See that mansion on the bottom-left corner? Well, it's the Major's mansion! You'll be pleased to know the new Clean Energy Tax went on three brand new fans. Major Davies comments, "I don't get why everyone's so upset about it. Nothing better than a small breeze in the heat of summer!"

By one of the small highways, the main power plant still produces most of the electricity but despite the new fans wind turbines installed all over town, it can't keep up with demand.

image.jpg

Talking of rural highways..This is CR-8, the north-south axi in Amery County.

The village of Gilmore, 3 miles from Amesbury.

A view from the other side of the curve in Gilmore. Note the new sewage dumping pipes in the background, downstream from the protected Lake Amery.

As shortages become more and more common throughout the town, the Amery County Council announced the building of a new dam, said to generate twice the power of the coal plant. Some residents campaigned, afraid the water levels would become too high and flood lowlands upstream of the dam.

As it turned out, though, the dam was perfectly fine and now runs perfectly well.

In the new industrial district, a cargo station was built. It's only a temporary solution, though; a railyard is planned to be built very soon.

Meanwhile, downtown, a public park dedicated to medicine was erected. Such a typical city life picture : heavy traffic, people hanging out in the park, people crossing roads where they shouldn't, and since parking space is at a premium, people took to parking on very steep slopes blocked by a row of parked cars on the street! Now that's economical allright!

And that's all for now! Little town is becoming all grown-up now with 40.000 inhabitants. Next year is another electoral years..wonder if Davies will hold her seat. Some people really don't like her fans...

Thanks for your feedback, I know I promised more mods but they'll come, I swear! With the 1.07 update scare I decided to hold them off a little, I was too afraid of losing progress in my city.

See you around in sunny Amesbury!

I like how you tackled different opinions as well as conflicts in the article. I especially like the situation at the dam. Serious questions like "What happens when the flood levels become too high?" "How much volume of water can this dam actually take to operate at optimum levels?" "If the space is flooded, where should a new space get built?" come into the fray. Maybe you can expand on that a little bit.

Visually wise, looks great! :)

Extremely well done journal!!!

Some of your comments reminds me of comments/questions I have when building my city!

The initial idea was to provide a narrative of what players have to think through so I'm happy it's how it comes across as :) Could have gone a bit more in detail though I admit, I'll try for later (the transport update maybe?) It took me some trouble to build that dam, but now it provides about 192 MW so I'm happy.

Thanks for the feedback and support!
