Ouisconsin County - Morgan Town: Rival to the South <DoW Update 116:03.17.15>

South of Ouisconsin River, Konrad Morgan bought up a large portion of land and settled a town, Morgan Town.

Morgan and his associate James Smith laid out streets. Settlers soon bought up lots. Audalaus Moorland built a textile factory and development exploded.

More and more houses are filling the original city grid.

Map of Morgan Town. Some maps distributed by speculators and land sellers deny the existence of Cass Town to the north. Cass Town maps also depict the Morgan Town as a swamp unsuitable for settlement for prospective settlers. Of course, anyone with decent eyes could see signs of development of both sides of the river.

Hope you enjoyed this update. You probably noticed some anachronisms like street lights and cars in driveways. I'm not an expert at this like SimCoug. I think the feeling is there for a old-time start to this city. Any tips, suggestions? Leave comments!

Additionally, the great debate has started - to play SC4 or C:S!? I haven't bought C:S, yet. I barely have enough time to play SC4 as it is, and I've already put a bunch of time into this "reboot". If I do get C:S, I'll most definitely have a city journal for that game...but I think I'll still very much work on this city, too. We'll see how C:S evolves.

Mymyjp: Wow...the amount of work required to create a map is amazing...

Makes me appreciate the available maps out there!!!

Excellent tutorial..I am ALMOST tempted...lol

Yeah, but I like it, haha.

Your maps are just so cool... Are the name of the streets real or you just make them up?

Regarding your debate, I think I'm staying SC4 for the moment :P

Thank you!  Undoubtedly you can find street names like that in some city.  They are not all from one city, they are not a recreation of a street name grid, they are street names.  Sometimes I just make a street name myself (though you could probably find that name SOMEWHERE) other times, I will grab names from Google Maps.  Wauwatosa is a suburb of Milwaukee and there was at one point a Wauwatosa Plank Road.  If you look closely at the last map image from Update 113, you'll see Wauwatosa Plank Road.

Yeah, I'm in no rush to abandon SC4.  Last night I was on Steam and almost pulled the trigger to buy C:S, just to play and try out.  At this point it intrigues me, but hasn't impressed me...I would love a ridiculously realistic looking city-builder.  That is my dream.  C:S looks like a model, which is okay.

Thanks.  I'm sure the street names have real-life counterparts that can be found in the real world.  However, I didn't lift any of the street names from a map except for Wauwatosa Plank Road (though this STILL fits into my city since the township (and a brewing town) to the southeast is called Wauwatosa.

Thanks.  My goal is to build a historic city and roughly progress to modern times.  That way, I have a more realistic city core.  Old buildings 19th century, early 20th century buildings should only appear in the inner city...since the outer suburbs will have been built with later architecture.  Now to do this right.  I'll need a TON of patience.  Most large cities in America were quite large and expansive by the 50s when the suburbian craze exploded.  My goal is to get a 16 square mile core, though other towns will be growing into communities around the main city at the same time, so those areas will also have old buildings.

I think the most enjoyable point will be building in the early 20th century, when I can start putting in more paved roads, allow cars and streetlights to proliferate and really hit the motherload of W2W buildings.

Mymyjp: Love that the building don't have that sidewalk effect..very well done!

I think I'm understanding what you mean.  Thanks.  Sorry for the missed update this week.  Just got distracted and busy with work and new games.  Damn you Steam!
