Entry no.3 - The trouble with Microwaves(the microwave relay network) and a quick look at some of my BAT's

Continuing on with infrastructure entry's,

Power generation and consumption must be balanced across the entire network at all times. If a portion of the system fails, electrical current can actually re-route itself over other parts of the system which may not be capable of handling the increased power flow possibly causing additional or even larger power failures. Therefore operators must react as quickly as possible to any faults. As mention before, Hillsoboro TS is linked up to several important locations via microwave transmission. The problem with microwave transmission is that its highly directional requiring a direct line of sight to transmit information using narrow beams. The range between relays is (normally)between few tenths of a mile to about 30 miles.

Tower black communicates with about a dozen different locations in this manner. But there are 3 locations that are especially important. One being the regions largest power plant - Dresden GS(Generating station). Two being the next and most important transmission substation, the largest in the region with interconnections to 5 different hydro corridors - Enforce TS. And lastly the A&B tower, where the signal is then relayed over to the PRPA's( Pretoria Regional Power Authority) central office in downtown Astoria. From there they operate and monitor the entire network in real time.

The tower had to be built high enough so that these microwave relays could connect to each other over the hilly terrain of the region. In addition to that primary purpose, tv, radio and cellular signals are also broadcasted/transmitted from here. Effective height above average terrain of the highest VHF(radio/tv) transmitter is 785ft(239m) [ground elevation 229ft + primary VHF transmitter height 556ft - downtown LC elevation 56ft]. Which is higher than Global Networks transmitter in LC(686ft), giving competing networks a slight advantage(longer range).

Az stands for Azimuth which is the horizontal angle of one object to another in degrees measured from due north 360/0. At stands for altitude which is the corresponding vertical angle. As I said, it has to be very precise. The VHF & cellular antennas & arrays are omnidirectional, meaning they transmit in all directions.

Here's a few views of the other transmitters, not to mention a sneak peak at some of my own BAT's :)

Those blue towers look kind of gimmicky there, but it got the appearance I had imagined for them in game:

In game image not available yet, that is I haven't finished the making this location.

RE: Your Comments

Tonraq

Thanks! Power infrastructure is one of my specialties.

Appreciate the comments :)

I'm glad I could change your mind on that. Its amazing how many different little things that can be specialized in the game. I guess that's part of the reason why some of us are still playing the game for over ten years now.

Yes you make a good point. It might look pretty cool, but I sure as heck wouldn't want to live near one.

Wow, how have I not stumbled across this CJ yet.  I love your attention to detail and realism (and custom BATs no less).  Looking forward to more!
