Povoação de Mong-Há --- Mong Ha Village (望廈村), is one of the 3 earliest Chinese settlements of Macau. It is believed that the villagers were originated from Hokkien/Fujian, an ethics group of South-eastern Chinese Coast. In face the name Mong Ha means 'looking at Xia', which 'Xia' may refer to Xiamen, then city of Fujian.

Earliest record of the settlement dates back to 14th century. The location 'Mong Ha' still exist today, but the village was gone in late 19th century when the Portuguese government claimed the land. Today Mong Ha refers to the area of the same location, but only limited traces of the village could be found.

Sidenotes:

Sorry for the slow and single picture update, I am working on two projects recently so things are getting slow.

The hardest thing about today's update is that I can't find a single related image of the once-there village. Therefore I can only guess what would it look like. The architecture is based on a typical village in LingNam culture, which was predominant in Eastern and Southern China. The scale of the village is scaled down to make it more eye-pleasing as well.

Hope you like it.

Don't worry about the single picture thing, it shows a lot already. Great work.

I might have some photographs that I can pass on to you. They are from the 1950-70ies and are taken around Hong Kong and other places in china. The time period isn't right, but there are still many old-timey rural scenes that you may be able to use. When I have a chance I'll look through them.
