Grover Ridge [Update]

Hello Simtropolis Members:

Whew, yesterday was just my birthday. To commemorate my 14th year alive, I decided to build Grover Ridge.

Grover Ridge was named after the president, Grover Cleveland. The city is a bustling suburb with the 2nd tallest skyline (2nd to Republic City). This city is a producer of computer chips for the entire region. Something special is that for the first time, the city intergrates farming, commercial offices, and skyscrapers together in one place.

Near the beginning of the city's history, it started off as a small suburb. Eventually, the population spiked when high-quality healthcare and education was offered.

A typical Sim's day in the city...

1.) Wake up at around 6 Am in the morning.

2.) Eat a breakfast of likely bacon from the neighbor city, Grover , which is a large farming community.

3.) Get in the car and drive to the financial district.

4.) Walk in at around 9Am

5.) Walk out of the store, enterprise at around 6PM.

6.) Buy a quick meal at a burger joint just around the corner. Go shopping at the Target Store if he has time.

7.) Return Home at around 10PM

8.) Go to sleep...

Here are some photos...

The city's financial district. The graveyard was left untouched, but the construction contractors tended to love the area around the graves for some reason. Maybe it is because of the tranquility of the resting place of the passed...

I've glanced through most of your city journal and outlined a few things that may help give it that extra kick.
1)  Mitigate density sprawl!  Instead of just zoning high density everywhere think about what is downtown vs. what is suburb and zone accordingly.  Emphasis the transition from one density to the next by regulating building heights and types.

2)  When laying out transportation routes don't just think of them as rudimentary elements that end at city borders.  Roads, Avenues, Trains, and Highways are like sentences - their subject is their point of origin and their verb is their route of travel.  For example, Emerald Bay Blvd. serves as a main thoroughfare to move wealthy sims from the plush inland mansions of Emerald Bay, along the hi-rise packed coastline, straight into the heart of downtown without getting on a freeway or changing roads.

3)   Sell your reader an experience!  Instead of saying Grover Ridge's main purpose is to make computer chips, assemble a series of images of industries and businesses unique to that city that are vital in the production of computer chips.  Perhaps there is a back story about the manager's commute, an explosion, or a strike that plays into the imagery you're creating with your selected images.

4)  Observe other city journals and see how they tackle similar issues or note things that inspire you!  The same can be done in some of the forums like "Show us your airports."  Observe how they assemble their airports and how can it be done better or better accommodate the parameters in which you need it to function.

5)  Let your imagination run wild and dare to dream!  I also advice holding your comments until your next update that way you can most effectively respond to everyone's comments.  Lastly, I don't have my own City Journal nor have I ever written one; however, I am a seasoned lurker and know what it takes to create an enduring journal.  Hope all of this helps a little!

"I live and work downtown, from my office and my $3 million dollar apartment I have a perfect view of cemetery plaza."

No seriously, this is much better than anything I churn out.
