The area where this CJ is located at was not hit by the tsunami, the earthquake happened at the northmost island in the island chain west of Sumatra. Also, it happened on the northern part of the island, the initial waves travelled northwards to Thailand, India, Maldive and Sri Lanka. Banda Aceh was not the worst affected by this tsunami(it was actually Sri Lanka), but there was more media coverage due to a war that almost happened.

If I remember, it had something to do with the Free Aceh Movement.
