Sayanogorsk is a small city in the outskirts of Novaya Tulsk.
Originally a small village in the Sayanogorsk Valley, the city grew as part of a plan to develop the area around the Sayanogorsk Dam (which you can see in the previous entry of this CJ), and became a political entity in 2004.

Lenin Square, with the mandatory statue dedicated to the Soviet Leader and the State Department Store.
In Thulak, only the government can sell goods and provide services to the people, that way the prices stay out of reach of the greedy hands of the market, and can fit nicely in those of the Leader.

Small family housing.
According to the Socialist Ideal, all should be provided with comfortable and egalitarian housing (the "Bloki"), even though this type of small houses still exists outside of the cities.
-

Thanks to a recent ruling from the Central Committee to Urban Planning, Sayanogorsk keeps growing and new Bloki never stop rising. A new railway connecting Sayanogorsk to Novaya Tulsk is in the works, but the project requires an expensive new bridge across Lake Sayanogorsk, slowing the process down. But the line will probably still open in a few years, gulag prisoners cheap labour, anyone?

The bridge across Lake Sayanogorsk is the main landmark of the town. Tourists love it! At least 3 tour groups saw it last year.

I leave you with a glimpse of what Lenin Square looks at night. Night-life isn't really exciting in Sayanogorsk, but hey, the store is open 24 hours!

See you soon !
