Just wanted to know what everybody thinks is the best cheatcode, hint, or way to build a city on Sim City 4.

Slowly, patiently, without cheating, and switch between neighboring cities often. Oh and download everything on the stex.

Slowly, the way cities are grown in real life.

If you take things off the STEX, you must test each and every one.

I have to also agree with slowly and patiently.  I'll often play hours without building anything new, but just observing and perfecting what is already built and developing.

My approach to Simcity is what I call micromanagement. Simply put, I play around with funding sliders and taxes quite frequently and I use the graphs and maps very often to see how my city is doing. Of course, this is best done while playing at Turtle speed (which is the only speed I use). Painstaking and slow yes, but you can create the best cities this way without the aid of cheats.

I think tongue was firmly in cheek.

wow if you got every item from the stex your game should take hours to load.

I mostly build slow and enjoy the view on zoomlevel 5 and 6.

Well, certainly I was exaggerating, but I have downloaded about 2gb and use 1.5 in my plug-ins folder. Yeah, it takes a while to load and there are many things I haven't even used, but so many things out there are so wonderful I couldn't resist my urges. Don't forget you can divide things up into themes like the wild west lots for one region and Asian themes buildings for another. I was just trying to show my huge appreciation for this site. 4.gif Thanks everyone!

I have used the Weakness Pays cheat alot i admit, and my favorite UDI mission: "A speacial load of garbage" pays out some big bucks too, like $70k. It's a real thrill the first few times, like getting the convention center was also a nice surprise.

As far as a "good" city, beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. Maybe you want a city with a large population or perhaps you think a "good" city is a farmers paradise. It's all up to you. And as far as guaranteed success with a city, a grid pattern of avenues with a 6x6 zoned area between them seems to be the mathmatically best layout. Wow, 2gb worth of stuff, that would take days on my computer, what is your download transfer rate? Man, I wish I even had time to download things.

I have two kinds of playing a region, one is the no-cheat whatsoever play and the other one like in my CJ's in some cities only ,I use the Vinnie ordinance for a few months.
