I noticed how the railroad in the game is two paralell tracks next to each other. In my home town it is mostly one railed tracks. Does anyone know if I could make railroad like that?

this is what it looks like:06_RRTracks.jpg

Yeah, but the rail isn't really one way. There are tracks that connect with it where a train could wait for another one to go by.

I think that it would be possible but complecated. It would be like one way roads exept rail. Also, one way rail stations would have to be made. Maybe we're better off sticking with sim city's rail.

these aren't exactly one way rails, they're two way but trains have to wait for other incoming trains to pass. it is used to save money (i suppose).

Well, then maybe it would be a good idea. In sim city it wouldn't only save money but it would save space too. Now the downpoint of it is that traffic will be slower on these tracks then on the other ones. Remember? Trains will have to wait for each other. Because they will also have a lower capacity. Less people will be able to use them.

yah but we can use puzzle pieces and make one that connect with 2 rail so we can make a place where 2 trains can pass in the same tine

I'm glad people are finally interested in prototype ops...I dug around through my negatives and HD and found some pics of sidings (and if anyone needs reference/info on any of this, I'm more that happy to explain).

I have already posted a request for single rail tracks on the Official BAT Request Thread

I thought that it would be better to have over hanging pieces like shown below
    explanation7.jpg
    explanation4.jpg

These are from the Under Bridge Scenery Thread as Storm991 said

These are not transit enabled (i dont think)

And im not sure if overhanging pieces can be transit enabled (i am only new)

but with over hanging pieces you wouldnt need heaps of pieces to cross roads and other rail

You would only need the straight sections and curved sections

These would make a great addition to a rail yard (possing as disused rail, which they are)

EYE CANDY thats all they would be

Zane900 - how would they save space on sim city 4? apart possibly from corners

    Cheers

No, I'm pretty sure you can only set Transit paths for the actual placed tile, so any overhangs wouldn't work.

Hmmm, the decision goes much deeper than "to save money". Trackage was laid because of interest by those on the right of way. If the amount of interest wasn't great then single trackage was laid. If it could be shown to the RR companies that revenue was going to be very large then (and if population warrented) they might lay double trackage from the start. Elsewise, if the pop grew to the requisite figures then single might well be ripped and double trackage laid down. It's ALL money; if the money is there the RRs will come. Heh heh!

There are MANY other factors involved (see what the ATSF did in northern AZ), but you're right of course in that it all boils down to money.

As for the single rail pieces, I'd really like to see a decent looking turnout.
