i have more than one problem with the rushhour-pack.
first sc4 works fine without rh, but after installing it the problems started.
it needs 5 minutes to load only the city or a new city, when sc4 needs only max. one minute!? then there is the second problem, i see no writings in the menue, i only can see the buttons without description.
the third problem is the biggest, the performance is really unplayable, its so lame ...
i got a pentium 2,4ghz, 512ram, radeon 7000,
why runs sc4 well and rh so 28.gif
i hope you can help me
thanks anyway

edit: when i start rh i first get an black screen, then i switch back to desktop and there i get a warning the configuration file(graphicsRules.sgr) cannot be parsed. using built-in rules. i click ok and go back to the game and it begins to load...

Hi DieFackel,

welcome here on simtropolis.

Don't expect too much from EA support.

Search here in the forums after graphic rules or if you prefer a german site

take a look at simforum.de

You will find all possible solutions without a single mail to EA

Hi greyveil,

I'm really sorry, I had not checked your link.

Never thought there is something useful coming directly from EA/Maxis

You can't see the URL because this thread is over a year old and links were lost in the site upgrade a month ago but if you are looking for EA's technical support, it's here:

This is directly from EA/Maxis support

  Question
Why does 'The configuration files, graphics rules.sgr cannot be parsed using built in rules' error message occur?
trnsp.gif
  Answer

'The configuration files, graphics rules.sgr cannot be parsed using built in rules' is an error message meaning that the Graphics Rules.sgr configuration file is corrupted or otherwise unreadable.  This can occur for many reasons ranging from an improper installation of the expansion or patch, or the use of a non-official patch.

  • If you are using a unofficial patch, you will need to uninstall the game and remove the left over components added by the unofficial patch.  Once removed, you can reinstall and the game should operate properly.
    • These left over files can typically be found in the game directory located in the following locations:
      • My Documents\SimCity 4
      • C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4
  • If this is happening when you patch the game or upgrade to the Rush Hour expansion, it means that the Graphics Rules.sgr file is not detecting properly.  To correct this, do the following:
  1. Uninstall the game.
  2. Delete the following two directories:
    • My Documents\SimCity 4
    • C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4
  3. Reinstall SimCity 4.
  4. Copy the Graphics Rules.sgr file located at C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4, and paste it to your desktop as a backup.
  5. Patch the game or install Rush Hour, depending on your original issue.
  6. Paste the Graphics Rules.sgr file located on your desktop to C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4.
  7. When asked if you are sure, select yes to overwrite the corrupted file.

hope this helps....

hi all!

im new here at simtropolis. btw, i uninstalled and reinstalled and did all the patching ang everything, still the problem is there...

here are the problems:

- menu buttons in exit menu, select region menu are alll blanks, meaning they're just buttons, no labels.

- when trying to play a map, loading time is longer than usual. there seems to be a problem as well, because roads, avenues, and a lot more (some railways, etc) cannot be built.

- in a map, there is the "<my sim name>" box, as if the my sim option is selected. the buttons in that box do not correspond to any actions, except the "exit" button or something.

while the overwriting of graphics rules.sgr makes the error warning go away, the abovementioned problems tell me there is a bigger problem... 15.gif

thanks everyone, sorry if this query has been posted before, but i just put them all together for the benefit of the others.

cheers.

Welcome to Simtropolis! jirehv24, we are going to need a little more info from you, what are your machine specs? including graphics card and driver revision?

also in your program files/maxis/simcity 4/apps directory there is a file called config-log.txt if you could post the contents of that file, it will help diagnose the issue.

your game is not getting updated correctly as per your config, < appName = SimCity 4 version = 1.0.233.0>, also the game seams to not be detecting your ATI card correctly, I would recommend a complete uninstall (moving or backing up all plugins) and delete all simcity 4 directories, then make sure you are signed into your machine as an administrator, and follow my "up and running" thread in my sig, following the first part step by step to do the updates, if you have an issue during any step, please note here exactly what the issue is, hope this helps...

Hi,

Before i try your advice, some few more details:

my sc4 has the sku3 something inside it's sku_data. while my rh has the "sku1 update to ep1" file. is this a problem? the thing is, i have played this game before, using the same discs, same machine, same specs. after a while, a got a little busy, did some housekeeping and reformatted my hard disk.

now im kinda free, so i decided to play this game again. now i got this problem... after installing RH, the graphics rules error pops up. when i try to copy in the same file from sc4 (as advised from the ea website), but then the menu box text is missing, with the "my sim name" box during gameplay. i erased the files inside temp folder, what else do i need to delete?

thank you all!

you might have an issue with the games being from diff regions, and the "final solution" might ultimately be to get matching sku'd but since you said the game had worked before I would try this order of update to see how it works,

1. install vanilla sc4 but do not do any updates to it, then

2. install rushhour, (if you get the graphics rule error, stop and let me know, not sure the sku3 graphics rule will work with sku1 RH) if no errors then go and run the updates that are proper for rushhour (sku1 to ep1),

3. if you don't get any errors and things load fine, then try the batupdate,, if you do get any errors, post the details of the error.

hi greyveil,

thanks for your help, in advance.

i discovered something, the wizard does not work if you try to open the site with mozilla.

i just did a reinstall, im now done installing the sc4. at this point, there are no errors yet. based on past instances, graphics rules occur right after rh install, which by the way, runs the game automatically after 100% install. so im not sure how to stop rh from running after the installation.

should i try an update with sc4? this is my second reinstall today. the 1st one, i tried the wizard with ie, though it only detects 1.0.233, and though RH had already been installed, it treated the file as if SC4 (vanilla, is that what we call it?)

and yeah, im not sure bout the bat update, coz i've never tried them before, so i dont think that's part of the problem.

thank you! cheers.

no problem at all! glad to help....

I would not do the sc4 (vanilla) update, just go straight to the rush hour install, then exit after it launches (but if you get the graphics rule error let me know) , then run the updater, if the auto updater does not detect the rushhour install properly, and you are sure you have rushhour sku1, then I would recommend you manually download the sku1 to ep1 update and run it manually, then let me know how it goes

hi,

im about to to the RH update. the wizard detects 1.0.233, and will update to 1.0.272, which i think is not RH, right? and yeah, i still get the graphics rules error, and the menu box text missing. and im not sure if sku1 is my RH's version, because im in asia and i bought it here. my vanilla is sku3 for sure, and now il do my sku1 to ep1 update(with reference to the file i found in my rh disc), i have downloaded it and will try to run it.

based on experience, it will update simcity_1 to 4 dat files, but not the exe file.

update: everything is still screwed up... even a manual sku1 download wont fix the problem. why oh why is this happening to me?! lol...

Well, it seems like I have the very same Big problem; the graphic problem, the unplayable buttons in blank, the "sims window" that cant quit, and the worst of all, that Sim City 4 Rush Hour kick me out of the game to Windows!

I have read all the tread... so... is there anything I can do, or only the plan B (Do not play RH) 3.gif

By the way my pc spec are:

VAIO laptop PCG K23

1GB Ram

Pentium 4 2.8Ghz

ATI radeon 7500

60Gb hard drive

all updated (i guess)

so thanks in advance for your attention

also this is the log:

You can play without Rushour and get alot of mods so It is as fun as it would be with it. I personally dont have that problem but I guess thats the only thing you can do.
