I have no clue concerning American presidents, so I'll play for fun. Is it Grover Cleveland?

Congratulations, slayerovsims.  Harry Truman did not attend college but still managed to become President.  I'll give it to you, as I know who you mean.

    Question 7
President Abraham Lincoln wore a black crepe band around his hat when he gave the Gettysburg Address.  Why?  This one should be difficult.

Also, I've just been really busy recently...the thread's not dead.

Actually, no, that's not it, although you would think that.  It was for another reason...

    Keep guessing!

I just read the dictionary, (crepe) and it says, black band indicating mourning: a band of crepe worn as a sign of mourning, formerly, around a hat

It had something to do with relatives, and nothing to do with war.  Clue!

Congratulations, airmale007.  The death of his son caused President Abraham Lincoln to wear a black armband for the Gettysburg Address.  Son Willie died in 1862, sending the President and First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln into deep mourning.  The latter never came out of it; Mary Todd held frequent seances with quack psychics, fueling reports of her madness.

    Question 8
Here at Presidential Trivia we are equal opportunity questioners, so let's switch gears a bit and ask some questions about those Presidential partners - the First Ladies!  Here's our first First Lady question:

    >Which first lady was notoriously cross-eyed, the result of being whacked in the face by an oar in her early childhood?

I believe that was Julia Grant.

Hello, Yellow, longtime no see. Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

Congratulations, TarHeelCP.  Nice to see you again; I'm great, and you?  Poor Julia Dent (appropriately) Grant was cross-eyed her entire life after her oar and, despite being a natural socialite, spent much of her time at White House parties in the corner due to her tendency to bump into furniture and people.

    Question 9
    More first ladies!

    > What first lady was famous for, among many other things, her imaginary conversations that she held with Eleanor Roosevelt for inspiration?

I didn't know that Julia had been hit with an oar, but I did know that all of her portraits were from the side, because she was very self-conscious about being cross-eyed.

And Dragon is right; it was Hilary who held imaginary conversations with Eleanor Roosevelt. I remember reading the column she wrote in '96 or '95 and thinking, What!?!?!?!

    Question 10
Even more first ladies!  Because I've lost my Presidents book!  So expect them for a while!

    This one should be easy.

    > What first lady, notorious for her disdain for Washington, insisted on having her laundry mailed every week to Kansas City for laundering?

    Question 11
Which president, the only known to acknowledge his favorite color being fuschia, was also the first to have a library in the White House?

Also, allow me to plug for my other forum games, Mystery City:  World 3 (unposted-in since July 30), and  Mystery Skyscraper (Sept. 2), which all offer barrels worth of monkeys of fun at the super-cheap price of $0.
