Everything has been slooooooooooooooooooow for me for the past few weeks; it's taking a couple of minutes to load each page. But it's just this site for me, only Simtropolis.

Is this a problem with anyone else?

(if this has already been established, I haven't seen, since this is my first try to get into the forums since it started ._. )

It's probably the volume of traffic. Sometimes I'll be browsing/posting/doing stuff and ST is as fast as greased lightning; other times it's like the place got Slashdotted or something. Slow as heck.

ST has still not fully recovered since the site hack in early May of this year. The site has been much slower since this sad event.

Also, I now know why some people are getting void hyperlinks in their posts. This is caused by the Firefox 3 browser. If you go back to Firefox 2 or another browser your links should work like they always have in the past.

Best,

I have not been able to get on since monday, every time I tried to get on the site would stop responding, even now getting the site loaded takes forever and The STEX Freezes before it finishes loading.

I'm having problems getting the download popup to actually show content when I click on items in the STEX. It's just an empty blue background. I don't know if this the slowness you are all talking about or if it's something more serious.

Greetings folks,

This doesn't happen often but today it seems bad (6pm AEST). when I click on a for eg Map on the Stex exchange I get a blue screen of nothing....so I cannot download it.

Have I done something bad? Perhaps I altered a java setting or maybe it's a problem at your end (that didn't come out right).

any assistance would be appreciated in mysterious ways

It seems like a few people are having this problem recently. Most others are not (I can't replicate the problem at all, no matter what browser I use.)

So far, it seems to only affect people with Internet Explorer...though that could be because no one with any other browser has come forward.

Some people have reported that logging out and then logging back in fixes the problem temporarily (though apparently you need to relog in for every file you want to view x_X)

Other people have told me that it's fixed itself overtime. All I can suggest is to try another browser, try relogging in, and if that doesn't work, just keep refreshing and hoping that it fixes itself.

The Exchange has been having some issues lately; so I can only guess that this new problem is related to the other problems.

Anyway, hope that helps. The rest of the staff has been alerted to the issue; we can only wait until it's fixed. Smile.gif

All map-files on STEX seems unavailable at the moment, but prop-files work so you can DL maps made in SC4Terraformer / SC4Mapper. 2.gif

I'm using Firefox 3.0.3, and I can't view the maps either. And relogging doesn't help either. But I have found a workaround. I just copy the link, paste it in the URL bar, then take out part of the address and it works.

Using IE 7.0.5730.13 here, and also getting the blank blue window.  Relogging, restarting, refreshing, and cut-pasting the URL to the address bar so far have not yet helped.  This seemed to have started happening to me sometime early Wednesday afternoon, as I was able to properly inspect STEX downloads that morning, such as the CNA Plaza by darknono35.

The blank blue page loads unusually fast, as though it is not receiving much data.  To give an idea, this is the skimpy source that I receive when attempting to load Bixel's SF 360 Folsom Revisited:

Blank Blue STEX Code

Yep, just enough code to setup a blank blue window with a header.

Hope this becomes somehow helpful, and, of course, good luck with the recovery repairs.  I never liked or had time for program debugging and gave it up a long time ago.

Is anyone else encountering this error? Bind failed for autosuggest criteria. bind value is not a 1D array of strings (enable debugging by adding cfdebug to your url parameters to see more information) If so... How to fix it? I been encountering a lot of trouble from this site for quite awhile now. What's the big issue with it? I love everything it has to offer and the meaning behind it considering it's for only simcity4.. A game I absolutely love. But it seems like I spend more time correcting things that actually playing it.

This site is still recovering from a major hack attempt back in May that affected us and thousands of other websites. Plus, the amount of bandwidth and traffic used; all out of one guys pocket, and donations, puts stress on the server.

Anyway, to your error. That's a new one for me. Where do you encounter it? When? Recently, or has it happened for a while? What browser have you been using?

(Plus, you should really have posted this in the Official Bug Report Thread above, but don't worry a Moderator will probably move it)

I do not believe that this error of the STEX giving only blank (with blue background) popups, could be related to the May Hack. I think its something completely different. Either a new hack, or new corruption. Do we know if any site programmer is looking into it?

EDIT:  Okay, i see that Boggy mentioned that the site admins are aware and working on it.  Thats great. I guess ill go play the game, and come back to the STEX another day.  See ya!~

For me, it's only been with the regular map files. But here's the workaround (it may work for other files too).

In Firefox, right click on the "Download" link, and select "Copy Link Location." Then paste the link into the address bar.

After that, you need to select the part of the URL that is similar to: "https://www.simtropolis.com/stex/download.cfm?id=5315&download=", which is at the beginning of the full URL. At the end of the URL, select the part that is similar to: "&designer=jhipolito" (these two parts will differ depending on the download).

At the end, you should have something similar to: "http://www.stex-server.com/maps/jhipolito/jhipolito_eaton/Eaton%5FJhipolito%2Ejpg". Once you do, hit "Enter" and the file/map should load correctly.

DP99: You mean you created new accounts? Generally frowned upon here (so promise not to use 'em again), but I hadn't thought of doing that. Interesting bit of info. If that's the case; then it's possible the problem is only affecting certain IP addresses, or certain computers. That would make sense; as many people are not experiencing the problem at all.

This is a PM from a new member, but it is useful to share...

Hi there, i'm new and i'e already picked up something which i think may be a bug, its just really annoyng, anyway, i have to click the back button twice before i get back to the forumquote>

The forum is currently very sluggish.  The techs are working on finding solutions to the problems.

I suggest using F5 to refresh the screen, rather than using the back button.

When you hit reply - mostly the reply box  just sits there for ages...  mostly what I do is minimise the reply window and F5 the forum page to refresh the thread.  Usually this will reload the forum page with your new post.  Often you will need to go back and manually close the reply box.

What you don't want to do is click the reply button more than once...  this will cause a double post...  which you will then need to go back and delete, or a mod will have to delete it later.

Until a solution can be found to the software problems affecting various parts of the site, the staff ask all members to continue to be patient and understanding.
