My first reply in a CJ. I would have done it sooner, but my vision was all blurry with tears of heavy laughter.

I wish I would have found this sooner... I sooo would have voted for Option E. 4.gif

Well, the days are busy for me as of late, so here is another very, very short update.

Here is a view of the expedition team making their way up the river.

I will post more pictures from the cities once I do a lot of photo manipulation. I have another tutorial to do too. It might be a good idea to hold off on the replies for a bit until I get some real meat to dig into.

    Good night.

There are three stories that are happening in this CJ right now and they are all related to each other. The first is the expedition team making their way up the river to find the crash site of the Feather Star. The second is the rebuilding of the cities after the devastation of the Crash. The third is the story of the impact on development of Endless Horizon Beach caused by the influx of Pumbas displaced by the Feather Star Crash. This county was first a backwater that’s only use was as a junkyard. The first growth in Endless Horizon Beach was a tent city, however the tents are slowly being replaced by more permanent barracks. Also warehouses are being built to house the materiel needed for the rebuild. (Both the junkyard and the warehouses are made by north country dude.) This update will focus on Endless Horizon Beach.

Let’s have another peek at the mysterious construction that is going on.

    Picture 151.ten

    endlesshorizonbeach15110copy9y.jpg

    Behind the scenes:

One of the biggest reasons I don’t show many pictures of the cities being rebuild is a lack of half-destroyed or half build stock buildings on the STEX. To show the rebuilding I have to make a picture in SC4 with cranes, bulldozers, and false props then Photoshop in a lot of detail. That takes a lot of time per picture. (Hhmmm, this might make a good tutorial.)

CJ readers usually value quantity of pictures over quality once a certain quality threshold has been reached. In my business we say "good enough for government work." I know I have received replies scant seconds after finishing an update and sometimes even before it is fully finished. This implies that some readers are looking at pictures, which can take hours to create, only for a few brief seconds. (Don’t kid yourself if you think this theory is incorrect. What is more seductive, an ounce of fancy Swiss chocolate or a pound of Hershey kisses?) The result is that as a CJ writer the time and effort to create one fancy picture may not be worth it if a better result can be obtained through much quicker means.

Of course that depends on what results a writer is looking for be it view count, reply count, Trixie award, reader appreciation, or just a fleeting personal satisfaction of the yearning to be artistic. I am more interested in first time readers, view count per update and artistic satisfaction. Don’t worry loyal fan base, as you are not forsaken, as reader appreciation is also high on the list and return visits are good indicators of the phenomena.

Anyway I have forgotten the point of this rant and I feel I am digging a hole so I am going to stop here.

    Have a good day.

    -Dan

Edit: I guess I was debating myself whether it is worth the trouble to have a few fancy pictures or to just have many simple pictures. Ultimately to understand what readers want. I am going to move this discussion to another forum as this CJ is not the p

Looks wonderful. Reconstruction seems to be going at a crackin' pace, doesn't it?

I bet a Statue of the Grand Pumba is going in that roundabout... 3.gif

I agree: it's important to appreciate your readers. Myself, I try to provide a good mix of story, pictures and whatnot - that's just me.

Keep up the good work. 2.gif
