Welcome to the Far Away and Long Ago City Journal
The increasingly poorly named City Journal about City Journals.

So I bet you are wondering what this City Journal is all about. This journal is in regard to what I see and read in Simtropolis. It is an evolving dynamic eclectic mixture of satire and musings. Halfway though, the CJ has a meltdown that lets me change its whole nature. I use photos and short stories and random clip arts to show what I think is funny about City Journals. I think I started this region around August 2004. There is still a lot of work to do as there is a lot of humor on Simtropolis.

And remember you don’t have to start on page one.
-Dan

The first part of this journal is about the region Far Away and Long Ago where the main city is Danton. This is the classic story of a bunch of small towns that grow into a centralized city surrounded by farms and towns, each with a unique personality. The climate is dry and the vegetation is scrubby but the woods are full of deciduous trees. There is inner city life and farm life with companies like Amalgamated Agriculture. On page five just as I thought the city was fairly close to being finished the lap top died along with all my back ups. I, thus, had to cleverly conceal the mishap with a volcanic eruption.

Picture 1.2

The second part of this journal is about the region Harbor of Many Moons. Considering that the city is built on a muddy river delta it is an odd name but who really cares. The climate is wet, muddy and perfect for mangroves. Vegetation grows everywhere. It is a story about a group of prideful people who are building a new society based on bureaucracy, anarchy, and silly hats.

I am happy. Are you?

The main towns are as follows:
Danton. So I name all my main towns Danton. You gotta problem with that?
FarField. The rail just runs though it every other week or so.
Two Bends. Because there are two bends.
Ocean View Harbor. Well, this is where the sims go to relax by the ocean, Sim Ocean, it is also the industrial part of the region.
Trail Head Pass. It is where the main rails join up. A little town of factories and mines.
Mountain High. Just a lot of snow.
Rain Beard. Named after a man named Rain Beard. It has good over looks of the region.
    Corner Flats. Well, it

And now a look at some Ocean View Harbor Industry.

    Picture 14.A
    oceanviewharbor23ca.jpg

This perfunctory harbor is what opened up the region to the sim world; that and the invention of the rail carriage. After all, what is the point of a locomotive without someplace to set your lunch.
I guess they make tractors and stuff here. I just know it smells bad. Industry has expanded from beyond this humble beginning.

This is where all the cucumbers ended up and another reason Ocean View Harbor is not the paradise as advertised. The Waste Decontaminator and Power Exaggerator Unit.
    Picture 14.B
    oceanviewharbor35hq.jpg

    And the landfill.
    Picture 14.C
    oceanviewharbor40gy.jpg

How do I get ride of that last blasted bit of garbage? Anyone? Note that there is no road to it. Them there cucumbers are like glue once they dry.

This is the new harbor across the river mouth from the old one.
    Picture 14.D
    oceanviewharbor50sz.jpg

This is where the cement from Cement Town is delivered before heading off to Sim Japan to make super sky scrapers. Uncle Phil says good riddance to it. No need for fancy buildings

The History of Genesis! I mean Crystal Junction! opps Digby! start again The Ragged Edge! Ok, I will get it right this time.

    The History of Danton!

    Chapter One
Come on all you sims and gather around. Papa Sim is going to smerf, I mean sim, you a story.

It all started far away and long ago. The first sims to find this region of value, for profit, were the Freedom fur trappers who prized the wingless bat mole for its sim pelt. They were pushed out here by the noise and racket of the Freedom-Indian War that was raging to the north east. Here the bat mole was sim plentiful. Being fur trappers, the Freedoms did not worry too much about the rest of the resources which were sim bountiful. They would trade rice and asparagus with the indigenous sims who's history goes back thousands of sims but we will sum it up by saying it was fun while it lasted.

A picture before the big freeze.

    Welcome to the Edge.

This is not on the edge of the map. It is on the edge of Outer Bend. It is on the outer edge of civilization and the other side of the tracks.

    Trail Head Pass

As you can see three rails join here:
    Danton Rail Road
    River & Rail Rail Road
    Great Northern Rail Road

Black & Gold Mine is a small copper and aggregate mine.

I wanted to make this town similar to Harpers Ferry in Maryland.
    Here are some close ups:

Here is another shot of the Far Away and Long Ago region.

It has grown quit a bit though the towns are still small and there is lots of farmland. The thing is about taking pictures is that I get focused on playing the game and forget to take a lot of photos. Many of these pictures are several months old.
Here is the shot of the roads and rails. Note that I am trying to keep most of the population in clusters instead of spread out.

One element that I find true to life but also sad is as towns grow and merge they tend to lose their individualism. Towns that once were separated by farmland now become just suburbs indistinguishable from one another.
