All of you are wrong. Wisconsin is the best MIDWESTERN state. We have chesse, milk and the Green Bay Packers. And Iowa does suck real badly. The Midwest is made up of the follwing states: Wisconsin, Illinios, Iowa, Nebraska, Both Dakotas, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Minnesota, Kansas, and Ohio.

I'm gonna say Minnesota, though I'm no expert on midwest states.  I've lived in the south all my life but I've visited all the midwest states and Minnesota impressed me the most.  They have an absurdly low crime rate, stunningly beautiful country, high standard of living...unless you just hate the cold you can't beat Minnesota for all around goodness I think.

Definitely Illinois. Abraham Lincoln was from there and he was the greatest US President IMO. And Illinois has Chicago, which I consider to be the best city on the planet...

Have you actually been there? Chicago has its problems, but many great features... More Frank Lloyd Wright and Mies Van Der Rohe architecture than anywhere else, the absolute greatest local food on the planet, smokin' blues and jazz 7 nights a week, a huge comedy scene including Second City, and it's also home to the world-famous Steppenwolf theater, etc.etc.etc.

I will admit, it's more fun if you have money. But it's not all murder and mayhem, that's an obsolete and ancient reputation.

I believe this is the oldest post I've ever quoted.

2nerdy: Amen brother!

Let no one yield, we're on the field where deeds eclipse the sun; where the brave are told on a thread of gold, the tapestry is spun. As they speak of dreams, their armor gleams, this calm before the storm... Where all can see their destiny, the bishop takes the pawn.

The thing about Iowa is that it sucks, but everyone there thinks it's god's gift to the Earth. In the Dakotas, the states are incredibly boring and they know it. They like to take trips to Montana, Minnesota, or Canada.

Here in Minnesota, we know we'll never be huge like either coast and are content with playing hockey and doing things no one else cares to understand (like Broomball and lutafisk). They call us the "flyover zone" but we're here and ready to feed guests from the coasts if they decide not to fly past us.

And speaking of feeding people, that reminds me of a story. When the 35W bridge collapsed people from the surrounding neighborhood brought food they had cooked down to the rescue workers. They actually had to turn away dozens of people. I thought that was great. It really shows the spirit of not just Minnesotans, but all Midwesterners

hey nerd guy! I am FROM springfield! Abraham Lincoln baby... My vote lies with Illinois, hands down. Indiana has more in common with Alabama than the rest of the midwest. Wasn't a governor of Indiana an active member of the KKK? Different times. No one lives in Minnesota, Iowa, Wisconsin (Exception, Madison is awesome), Ohio ( GO TRIBE) is great, but in my opinion it has a lot in common with the Eastern states. Michigan might as well belong to canada. But Illinois, we've got the agriculture, cosmopolitan balance, and international fame* for Lincoln and Chicago (even if it IS due to Al Capone)! IL

* Also famous for Adlai Stevenson (see the movie 13 Days) and if i have to admit it, Ronald Reagan... even though trickle down is nonsense

North Dakota and South Dakota are really boring, but Fargo and Sioux Falls have the most things to do besides go look at the four stoneheads and the flatlands in North Dakota.

Fargo w/ Metro: 175,000

Sioux Falls W/ Metro: 230,000

Sounds like my British friend. We gave him a book on the American states and we quizzed him. He got Minnesota right but then we pointed at Wisconsin and said lacking complete confidence, "Wichigan?" I bursted out laughing so hard. Only fair cause I made myself look like a donkey when I said "Yorkshire" as "York-SHY-er".  Oops... Its funny to hear British accents say Native American names like "Minnehaha" and such.

I think Iowa sucks.....and I'm from there. But it's not the worst. Nebraska is by far, the worst.state.ever. My favorite is either Minnesota or Illinois.

Is Iowa really that bad?  If they retain their French past and still use bidets, than that might be appropriate. 45.gif

What is wrong with Wisconsin? Frank Lloyd Wright, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, Dairy products, and Farms are all Wisconsin. I should know, I live In Kenosha, Wisconsin. It beats all Midwest states not in cluding Nebraska 'cause I have family there just as Wisconsin. JKB

lol yeah we certainly do corruption well, personal city homerism aside, I have traveled quite extensively and can honestly say Chicago is truley one of the world's great cities, awe inspiring, fun, unique, affordable and friendly.  Illinois by default of being the home state of this great city wins this battle hands down.
