Ehh, can't say its my cup of tea, but its already done, so why not keep it? I think it might look better with some more variation between the two pinks. Also, not sure how this would look, but try using a warmer gray for the trim, the blue in it kinda makes it look off.

Wow, great new building... it's something different for once. I like the impressive roof, great textures too. The colors in your yellow one look fine for me, I think it shouldn't be too bright anyway that's why I kinda like the pink version better, because the contrast is more subtle... although it's pink 3.gif

Actually, I think I like this one more 29.gif

I'm not sure why, but the pink just works. Great job once again!

I think the pink works well in the context of the game - and aren't there a few Maxis buildings that are near that color anway? The yellow looks good, too...

fantastic work spa! then again what else should i expect 4.gif that house would look amazing in any historic city. i prefer the yellow over the pink personally but they both work. Your work on the halifax buildings is also great. The little details make me want to drool 3.gif Looking forward to another flood of BAT's on the STEX!

Simhottoddy: Not a pinko eh? 4.gif The pink has mixed reaction so I'll probably keep it. The vareity can't hurt.

Phils: Yeah this one is a big step away from the ordinary. Not many like this, even in real life! My heart is with the yellow since it's what the real thing looks like, but the pink, to me, isn't bad 4.gif

Gn: Yeah the pink is a mixed review.

    Allez: Thanks.

    Pingangster: Thanks.

Madhatter: Thanks. Maxis did tend towards a pinkish/cream sort of hue to everything so you could be right, it might actually fit in quite well.

Grant: Thanks. I'm planning to do a batch of older residential buildings. A set of mansions from Halifax's Young Avenue could be in the cards eventually. I'm glad you like my work.

So I have another 4 colours variations to add to the mix

    dundasterraceothercolouim2.jpg

I think of the new batch the brown and green are my favourite. I'm planning to mirror 3 of the alternate colours and leave the rest as is. I'll then make two building families (one for the 3 mirrored and one for the 3 unmirrored) to maximize the variety on the lots. At this point, I think they're pretty much ready for the render.

These looks nice! You should release them all for more variety.

Yeah, I can understand that... but those new colors look awesome. I agree with you on the brown and green one. They're my favorites too.

I love this one and the colors are great. I like the darker pink better than the lighter one and the brown is great too. I think I would like the green if it was a tad more olive. But nice work all around 9.gif

Todd: Thanks. They're packaged up and in the internal BSC queue now.

Ping: That's the plan. I made them into families so the game will pick the colour randomly when one of the lot grows.

Gn: haha. Everyone has their own take. For me, the blue is my least favourite but I really like the brown.

    Jacqulina: Thanks

    Phils: Thanks.

Ilikehotdogs: I actually broke down and did a B&B version since the building struck so many people as a B&B.

Simfox: Duly noted and implemented 4.gif

Kant: Ahh with enough colours there seems to be one for everyone... although the brown seems to be a favourite. I'm still partial to the yellow though since it's what's on the real thing.

    Panther: Thanks

    Art: Thanks

Well as mentioned earlier, I have another bunch of old time Maritime residential buildings underway (started over Christmas). They're a set of duplexes from Church Street in Halifax's South End (just around the corner from me actually). Here's some pics of the real things to give you a sense of what I'm making.

    churchstreetapartmentyeit3.jpg

    churchstreetapartmentgrlf6.jpg

    churchstreetapartmentblvn1.jpg

    churchstreetapartmentbreg2.jpg

I really like them. They're nice and colourful, have some great little details but don't scream for attention, and have been generally well maintained (a few exceptions of course). These bunch are all clustered aroung the intersection of Church and Harvey Street, but the style is a little more widespread. I have noticed a few of these on other streets in the South End, up near Spring Garden Road and even across the harbour in Downtown Dartmouth. In a particularly Halifax type quirk, they're detached. A lot of Halifax's older neighbourhoods that have survived had density without rowhouses. Very thin gaps were left between buildings that today, where wide enough, have been turned into a place to stash the family car.

Anyway, here's what I have done:

    churchstreetapartmentyeov5.jpg

I'm planning 6 different variations. Just the yellow finished so far, but I'm planning to retexture the model to make a red version. I'm done modeling the green version and I'm still working on the models of the others. These will be almost wall-to-wall like Don Miguels Multi-family homes. Anyway, more to come (likely after the weekend).

The best word I can come up with to describe these is cute 3.gif Needless to say, these are excellent, and I can't wait to see the whole package! Also, I assume you will make these with different colors as well, right? 2.gif

Wow! I love those duplexes! I agree with you: they have wonderful details but still appear quite unassuming. Great choice to BAT!

I don't have any comments on what you've made so far--they look great--but I do assume they'll be set back farther on their final lots? Right now pedestrians are going to have a very hard time getting past the staircases lol!

really nice! This looks like it will be a great collection. 9.gif But I agree with the above about the roof feeling a little weird. I wonder if the texturing could be done a bit differently so it didn't feel so spread out. but even if left as is, I think they are great!!

Ping: I think cute works 4.gif There are different colours coming. I have added a green and a red to the mix and before I'm done their will be a light blue and a brown. I'm kind of torn on whether the 6th and final one will be orange or dark blue... I'll probably make that decision when I come to it.

Gn: You weren't the only one who "raised" the roof issue 4.gif I nudged the roof up a bit. I don't want to take it too high though because they are meant to be fairly flat. I also added a gradient to the shingle textures which also helps.

Allez l'om: Thanks. They're kind of like San Fran houses. Some bright colours and from the last century. I can see how the mind goes there.

Nofunk: Ahh you were tricked by my photoshop mockup. They weren't in game in that photo. I just dropped them on an SC4 screen shot to get a feel of how they would look against the game's colours. I have them in game now with a normal setback 4.gif

Kant: Thanks. As I mentioned above to GN, I have adjusted the roof (added a gradient and nudged it up slightly). It may be small, but I think it makes a difference.

I have been fairly occupied as of late and haven't been spending much time batting. I have done some texturing though on the other Church Street apartments. If you don't like yellow they now come in green and red and are in game on a lot. Check them out

    churchstreetapartments1le4.jpg

I really like the green one! They're a building family so all of them will appear on the 3-4 different lots I make to add variety. The trees in back are a prop families so, as you can see, they randomly change too. I'm now about halfway done the set. There are still 3 more to come, but they'll be plainer in style. The brown and blue one I posted earlier, plus one more variation. I do have one thing for your consideration though. The Church Street apartments ended up being small enough to squeeze on a 1x1 so I tried them out to see how they would fit. Below is the result.

    churchstreetapartments1le4.jpg

In general, they work, but there is a small problem with the rear steps. They end up practically on the fence and there is no room to do anything about that. So how dumb does that look? Can I get away with it or should I just junk the 1x1s and leave them all as 1x2s?

Well, I think they fit quite nicely in the 1x1, but functionality wise, I think it would be better to make them 1x2. I'm not an expert, but it seems to me that most structures of this size/density are 1x2. You could always make two different lots 2.gif (Though it's a lot more work)

Now, about the BATs themselves, they're looking wonderful. All the colors fit well, and the details are very nice. Don't really have any suggestions to make. You've done a good job with these guys.

Wow! I missed a cool addition to your BAT stockpile! These are great, beautiful details in the RL buildings and they came out nicely in game. As for the backs, I think you can get away with it, you can only realy see the distance between the stairs and the fence on the green house from the side. I do think it would be nice to have 1x2s as well, this is the kind of building that would work for either situation I think.

    Really lovely job,

    -Todd

This set looks super cute...I love them. The only thing I would change is the height of that top ridge where the two roof planes meet - I would have cheated it up just a hair so the roof doesn't look quite as flat, even though it's probably nearly flat in real life...but that's just a personal preference. These look swell, and I love the different color variations...!
