Help Creating Regions

Ok, I followed a few of the tutorials on how to create a region. I found a map on the STEX resized it and created a config.bmp file, placed the aformentioned in a new region folder in the my doc subtree, opened the region and hit CTR+ALT+SHIFT+R, navigated to the correct .jpg and....

Nothing, the computer just sits there.

I know it can take a while to rendor a region, but does anything display on the screen while rendoring it? Or do you just look at the flat map? (the squares on the flat map seem to display correctly, so I think the .bmp file is correct, and the size is 10x10 pixels, so I resized the .jpeg to 641x641 pixels. Anyone see an obvious mistake I made?)

Because you knew to hit CTRL+SHIFT+ALT+R, I will assume that you have read the tutorials on the subject. Here is the question I have for you...When you do the 4 key combo, does anything at all pop up on your screen? Namely, a blue browse box to locate the .jpg file...

you can change the city make up of the config map, I do this all the time...but if you change the demensions of it (make it larger or smaller) the game won't render the correctly...if it renders it at all the Jpeg and config map MUST MATCH...I'm unsure of the proper ratio demensions they must have though

after the render command...provided above... the window pops up...you search your HD for the proper folder where the Jpeg is...select it...and this should start the rendering process the game should slowly go through each city...it will be a flat piece of land on the screen...you won't see any terrian alteration til the render is finnish and the game returns to the region view

ps...shut down all other process that you can, including the screen saver and any idle options you may have

render uses a lot of ram and processing , i just shut the monitor off and find something else to do for a while while rendering a map...specially a large one...any interuption may stop or screw up the render

and you have to start the process all over again

If you do the key combo and can select the jpg, then you should see something as it renders. Basically it looks a bit similar to when you load a city - you see just that city tile and it has one of the funny phrases (reticulating splines, etc.). If you don't see this, it isn't rendering and something is wrong earlier on in the process.

My guesses for things to check are to make sure the size of the jpg is right for the bmp you have (I don't understand why you needed to resize what you downloaded as you said, it should be the right size when you download it). Also make sure it is a grayscale image.

using the four key command I do get a pop up tp navigate to teh proper .jpeg file, it is after selecting a file noting happens.   I was trying to resize regions because most of them are MUCH larger than i wish to play.  I think that in resizing the .jepeg (for instant changing it from 1025x1025 to 513x513 I do something wrong.  The config file seems right, and a flat map in teh sives and shapes i want shows up when I load the region, i just cannot get my resized .jpegs to rendor.

    Try this:
go to the directory, and delete everything that isn't the jpg or config.bmp.

I think that the region.ini file is often the culprit of this.. I ran into the same error of which you speak the first time I rendered a map. I think that the game has information in region.ini that is incorrect, so the best thing to do is delete everything but config and the jpg and go and load that region again-- it will re-create region.ini.
