you could also download the SC4Tool program and scan the lot36.gif (found on the homepage, just scroll down )

it will tell you all the stats of any building including let ya know if it is a growable or plopable lot and which file is the growable or plopable29.gif

As Tolomar pointed out, it's really easy with SC4Tool. Just open the SC4Lot file with the Exemplar Editor and expand the Lot tree view. Then click on LotConfigPropertyZoneTypes, and you can see immediately what type of lot you have.

In many, many cases, there is no need at all to open the file. Look at your examples: The lots that are growable grow on zones you placed - quite logical, eh? Now look at the file names and see which ones have info about zone type and wealth in them:

CO$$$7 - high-wealth commercial office, stage 7 building. This is info you need for a growable building. Hence, the lot is the growable one.

CS$$2_3x3 - medium-wealth commercial services, stage 2, 3x3 tiles footprint. Another case of detailed info for a growable building.

The ploppables don't require such information. You don't depend on zones. You don't need a growth stage since it doesn't grow anyway. You don't need to know how big it is because you can select it from the menu and check the outline yourself, even if you don't plop it down yet.

This naming scheme can be found with many BATters. SimGoober, for example, does pretty much the same. If it starts like CS$$3_GooberGrocery, it's the growable. If it starts like SG_GooberGrocery, it's the ploppable.

NDEX replaces the dollar signs to indicate wealth with numbers, i.e. they replace CO$$$ with CO3 or CS$$ with CS2 (not that NDEX would ever do a CS$$ building 9.gif ).

However, I always wonder what's so difficult about including the clear text string GROW or PLOP in the names of the respective files, or to simply make sub-folders for each version before ZIPping things up. Beats me, honestly. 42.gif [shameless self-promotion]If you have downloaded any building I modded, you will see that I tried my best to make things as clear as possible.[/shameless self-promotion]

Once you've downloaded and installed a bat to your plugin file how do you tell between the plopable lot and the growable lot?  Any other tips about telling the difference between the two would be greatly appreciated as sometime the difference is not this obvious.10.gif

    Example: ITS_One_Churchill_Place_10a3879d.SC4Lot
                   CO$$$7_ITS_1Churchill_50a388af.SC4Lot

                   CS$$2_3x3_CSX Rural-Molly's Place_ed62s214.SC4Lot
                   CSX Rural-Molly's Place_6d2856d1.SC4Lot

Sorry Superstar, I was undecided between a couple of forums and picked that one because I thought I would get the correct answer quicker.

T Wrecks, thanks for the tip.  I do have a couple of your files and your labeling them PLOP and GROW sure makes things easier.  10.gif
