Whoa! Those are definatly the most realistic fields that I have even seen recreated in SimCity! It rivals looking at a real satelite image on a barren part of England 3.gif
As I have said, this looks very realistic, and I am looking forward to see more of this beatiful city/ies, and maybe even a bit of a rural CJ, as there are so few of them nowadays...

Oh lordy, lordy.

Purdy.  And for once, you made 'em look good- without squares.

Congrats.

Hmm.. that is just a teaser....makes me wonder what the rest of it is going to look like. That is one awesome planning on the farmland. Great work.

wow, i love that farmland, Eric...spectacular work. i've been trying to create realistic looking farmland with varying success myself, but it looks like you have a very good way of doing them yourself.
i look forward to more updates - especially close-ups so i can get some more ideas. keep up the great work.

Now I thought I put too much effort into farmland!  My only criticism is, if you're trying to achieve a New England look (as the CJ title implies), you need to leave at least 50 % of that map forested.  At least for northern New England anyways.

I have a question - have you run out of I-Ag demand yet?  I did so in both my Buffalo and now my Aurieshire County regions.  Built too many of them, and now I need to work on population to balance it out!

I'm aiming for a more developed, southern coast New England look. I want to develop all the farmland first before demand is lost by the creation of other jobs. The plan is to grow the whole region naturally with the city and suburbs pushing out into the patchwork farmland. Previous attempts with building the city first never really made me happy. You are still right, of course...there does need to be a little more open forest area. Since the northwest part of my region is taller rolling hills, I'm planning on leaving that a little less deforested.

Thanks for all the responses! I didn't expect a rural CJ to elicit this reaction. As for how I built it, it's essentially tile by tile. I'm taking screenshots as I do the next region to demonstrate some shortcuts I used to speed things up. I'm also playing around with some visual enhancement mods for rural areas and will post closeups when I have a more polished, cleaner look on the micro level.

    EDIT:
One problem I'm running into is city borders in the region view remaining very visible with the patchwork layout. Fixing this involves alot of jumping back and forth between cities, counting tiles from the nearest neighbor connection, and making sure the farm boundaries match scross city edges. After that, I repeatedly bulldoze the farm until I get the right one to pop, and then make it historical, on both sides of the border. This is really slowing things down, but it's worth it. The clearly artifical straight line looks is really jarring in a patchwork setting.

-- Standing ovation -- I applud your remarkable detail in the realism in your development. for a minute i LITERALLY thought i was looking at a real-life picture. The news about more development is great! I think you could be the new lewellan, considering that your using agriculture stuff, and small adorable towns. I would like- no I want to see- actually better yet I NEED to see more pictures from you.

I am seldom inspired to post in these forums, but holy moly, from that one picture this region looks incredible. This definitely rivals and possibly surpasses Digby in realism. Can't wait to see more detailed views. Also, any plans for rivers or coasts? I would love to see a nice peaceful river winding its way through farmlands like that. Great work!

Looks great! Make sure to include some hedgerows. In Vermont they are very common.
