I am putting a team together to model buildings in Chicago and recreate the city as closely as possible. As well as vote on issues like zoning, road / rail / water placement, building and block dimensions, game restriction concessions. Ect.. Here are some pictures of what I have started so far. I am starting in the lower loop area. Some call this area the financial district of downtown Chicago.

Here is a map with some building locations that have Franklin Avenue Addresses which is the buildings we will be starting with.
Lowerloop1.jpg

This is an in-game picture of the area we are starting with. The building in the picture is the Old Colony Building which I had previously modelled.
LowerLoopingame1.jpg

This is the current building I am working on, the Monadnock Building which will sit on a 6x2 lot and you can see the position of in game and on the map.
Mon1.jpg

Please reply to this if you are joining this project and post which of the following buildings you will be working on first.

AVAILABLE BUILDINGS AS OF 12-19-04
The Chicago Board of Trade Building
The Crown Jewel of this first available building set. I need this built on a 3x3 lot sized area, all buildings needs to be near exact measurements. This building should be a full 48m deep but only around 40m wide. It is obviously art-deco new york style.

Chicago Board of Trade Addition
This also needs to be on a 3x3 lot. This very modern building should take up the entire 48x48m area so there is no room to place anything on the lot but the building.. this will be a very common occurence for this project.

Transunion Building
This is another modern building that should be quite easy to BAT, (not expecting A+ artwork on all these buildings). This building will sit on a 4x2 lot and should be around 58x32 Meters.

Here is a satellite photo of the Chicago Board of Trade Complex and Transunion Building to the Right (East) of the two Board of Trade Buildings

There is a pretty good Sears Tower on the STEX. Just head over there and pick it up, Im sure it is still there cause I have used it many times. Good luck with the Chicago recreation too.

None of the Sears Towers in the STEX blend in with the John Hancock Center (Mainly due to the textures) and that should be consdiered a serious flaw.

I was always planning to do the BoT . .lol . . You should get Marrast to do it. It has the same sort of weathering that the Battersea does, and Marrast already has a texture library.

    Theelord:

    Currently, I have dibs on:
    Lake Point Tower
    Both Prudentials
    Smurfit-Stone Building

    And my already-existing releases.

That Monadnock looks great. I was thinking, someone should really model that.

If I have time, I might do BoT for you.

jt - I just have to do night-lighting.

One more thing, TheeLord - the newest version of the Network Addon Mod lets you put Elevated Rail over Road, like it should be. And I think LaSalle and State should be avenues. Other than that, your layout looks good. I also use a standard size of 6x6 with variations.

you can have rail over roads now?!?!?!

NO FREAKIN WAY!! that is TOO cool. ANNND, I just came up with an excellent way to make builidings on 45 degree turns.. check out the new thread in the workshop, I was truely amazed at how good this method looks.

WGB.. I would love for help with the highways, but honestly dont think we will be doing too much of the highways.. I really want to stay focused on downtown and making as many buildings as possible.

I worked more on the Monadnock, almost finished, I should be able to upload that tomorrow night, but a lightbulb went off in my head on how to make buildings on 45 degree streets, so I HAD to model a building like this first for the community.

Got the Metcalfe building modeled. Its a fairly simple international styled building.. There will be a few like this that might get a little boring. but when you have houston tileset turned on, you will actually get buildings that reflect that era, 90% of which are halfway boring like the metcalfe haha. I need to get the city updated and take a few pictures of it.. Ill have a few buildings in this area now.

A couple of distincly Chicago landmarks that have not been created are the Indian Warriors off of Michigan Ave. I dunno how to add pictures right into my post, so I put it as an attatchment.

Another are the Ghost and Darkness Lions in front of the Art Institute.

    TheeLord,

Can you let me know which map you are using to recreate Chicago? I have been trying to on mine, but don't know if the map I got was that accurate (just didn't seem that the loop area was big enough).

    Thanks! 10.gif

I don't know about TL (he might just be terraforming), but I used the one on the STEX blown up to 132% of original size. I had to resize and re-create the region several times to get the size right, but 132% should work.
