recently got SimCity 3000 off of steam and its kinda messed up. moving super fast and jumping to edge of map makes it impossible to play. i tried looking places for help but they were outdated. is there a mod for the game that will slow it down? i use windows 11. if there's any other info you need just ask.

I don't believe we ever tested this (and it's no longer an option for me to try), but here's a suggestion I made in another thread long ago:

While you are poking around (or I'll test it sometime) have you tweaked the SC3U.ini file? There is just one variable in it.

[Navigation]
ScrollMarginFactor = 0.005787

As a Margin Factor I'm guessing it has to do with either how close the mouse needs to be to the edge to start scrolling or how fast it goes. I read in post somewhere that if you are drawing roads and bump the edge you wind up on the complete far side of the map nearly instantly.  I haven't tested any of that yet.

will check tonight as am pretty certain there is a patch on one of the forum posts in GoG to tweak SC3 so it will work in on a modern desktop, the GoG version of SC3 had already been patched

Edit: Found it, but am not sure it will fix your problem

When the game came out it used a ball roller for the mouse instead of lasers like they have today. I wonder if that might be an issue with how you move around the map then like said it shots you to the edge.

I think the laser just multiples some dynamically. The ball mouse was smooth and precious.

That's more probably an effect of changing screen resolutions. Pointing devices, be them mice or trackpads, have their sensibility measured in a number of pixels by physical distance moved, and when changing from a big screen resolution to a smaller one, that proportion becomes a bigger share of the overall screen size, which makes the device feel overly sensitive.

If you cannot make the game work in a higher resolution (which I don't think SC3000 would allow, at least natively), your option is to temporarily reduce the sensitivity of your mouse so that it feels comfortable in the lower resolution; an easy way to do this is by changing your system's screen resolution to the one the game uses, then go to the mouse settings and test there until satisfied, and finally check if the problem got solved in the game as well.
