So uhhh... The real reason why I destroy my cities is because of traffic and fires (and power... and crime... and zoning). Firetrucks can't get to burning buildings on time due to traffic, and higher quality buildings are making other buildings run out of power. Criminals get away with stuff and buildings go abandoned because of course, traffic. And buildings go out of business and become abandoned. Is there any tips I can use to help manage that?

While I cannot help with your game questions (because I've never played this version), I did notice this topic in the New Members Information forum and so I moved it here into SimCity (2013) General Discussion. *;)

Hopefully someone'll come along with answers, but keep in mind this is one of the least active areas of the site. :uhm:

SC2013 does require a lot of determiniation to master. It is not a much loved game. Sometimes even when you've done everything to fix the problems they persist and even get worse. The strategy I use is to raise all taxes from 9% to 11% at the start of a new city so I can afford the infrastructure required to make peace with the simulation. The game is designed to depend heavily on regional input as it was mostly intended as a multiplayer online game. Build a regional bus system early, start with coal power and make sure your industry is on the edge with the wind blowing out of the city.

Use tourism early to increase customers and revenue. Crime and fire can be difficult to deal with because of the regional dynamics, but education helps, so build a community college early to fast-track higher-ed on all wealth levels. For health, keep residentials and water source far away and upwind from industry and make sure water pollution isn't bleeding into park, water or residential areas.  It took a lot of persistence and tolerance of frustration, but eventually I got to the point where I can easily build a stable city which then can be used to support new cities. The game is more about regional building than SC4.
