HI @gviper

Any changes in the plugins? NAM, seaports, airports, etc...

Does it occur when entring a city or region?

Do you use -CPUCount:1 in the command line?

So, in doing a little triage work I think i've been able to narrow it down to some terrain trees that I used in elevated areas of my region. I only get the CTD, when I try to lay roads through these areas, and once I bulldoze the foliage, and lay down the road I'm usually good to go. I removed the tree controller/file w/o getting rid of the trees first and it sure seems like it's either that or a NAM issue. thanks.

There is indeed a known problem if removing a tree controller without first removing all trees planted while using it. So I believe we can safely rule out NAM as the culprit. (There is a similar CTD related issue if switching seaport controllers without bulldozing all prior plops from the old controller prior to the switch.)

Now the interesting part is that you are able to enter the city tile where those trees are located. It's much more typical for the CTD to happen upon loading the city tile and it's borked forever after.

Well, my problem came back. Thinking it may be a two parter. Trying to solve the problem may have created a NAM problem (since when I had NAM running it would CTD, when I pulled it, it would load the city fine. So i completely reinstalled NAM, and this time made sure the 4gb patch was applied to the correct application (that's not really clear in the instructions). Hopefully, I can enjoy things now, gotta be careful when loading mods into my game though.

If it was a 4gb patch issue, it usually causes the game to crash almost immediately upon getting the region view if using the full installation of NAM (perhaps this isn't 100% consistent though). The file to patch is the game's EXE file located in the C:\Program Files\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps directory (the first parts may depend upon where you got the game). Also, did you remove the entire NAM folder from the previous installation. Reinstalling won't remove the older files.

Yes, I went ahead and removed the whole thing. No doubt there is still a mystery as to what was causing the CTDs. they occurred when I would attempt to lay down a stretch of road in a mountainous area without removing the foliage first. I didn't realize that you needed to be very careful when uninstalling tree controllers. I don't think what I was using was a controller, but I did have custom foliage (specifically in these areas) and removed the files for them w/o removing the trees specifically. No boxed ever showed up as well.
