The 4GB patch adds a flag to the .exe that is exclusively for Windows systems, that tells the OS to run it with LargeAddressAware (LAA) memory.

As such, it is of no use whatsoever with Linux systems, you must configure things such that your OS will enable LAA (or the equivalent) when SC4 is running. This might entail adding it as part of your WINE script or it could even be that your OS detects or otherwise does this by default. A search for "how to enable LAA under XXX", where XXX is your installed distro, should help you to work out what you need to do.

However, note that this is only necessary if you have installed the Full controller with RHW, if you only want to use the Low RAM - No RHW NAM controller, it is not necessary to assign the application more memory.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.

TLDR, try it with Lutris or Proton, they often use a script which enables LAA

if you want to stick with just straight up wine, you're going to need winetricks.

so, it's a bit technical but you need to first create a 32 bit wine prefix.  copy the SC4 executable and the 4GB patch into that prefix.

run it there.

then copy them back to the 64bit wine prefix.

with this it should recognize LAA.

instructions taken from similar problems in the wine db forums.
