Returning to SimCity 4 after a few years (NAM Questions)

I've come back to SimCity 4 after not playing it for a few years. I'd wanted to play but didn't have the space to have the asset files on my computer. I believe I last played with NAM 37 or 38. At times I understand what Will Wright meant when he said SimCity had worked itself into a corner and had gotten to complex. At times I feel this way with the NAM with all the new stuff and have thought maybe its time to just move on to City Skylines.  I however have been trying to learn the RHW. The NAM makes me dizzy at times with how complex it has gotten with all the stuff in it. I however want to learn to use a lot of this stuff. I'd like to know what has changed since I last played with it. I know at one point you couldn't do much with diagonals with RHW. I don't know if that has changed. I would like to ask for guidance from the community to learn all this new stuff. Its just really confusing knowing where to start.

Many things have changed from NAM 37 to NAM 42. We are improving the playing quality of NAM and especially with FLEX parts but it is a very long process. Anyway. there are videos available where you can see the new features of NAM

Another tip of mine is to come to the discord servers to receive support quickly. Both Simtropolis and SC4 Devotion own a discord server where there are people who can help you.

We're here to provide help! Since NAM 37, there's been all sorts of positive changes with the mod and the NAM team. For starters, we've added an immense amount of content and fixes over the last year, which probably would have taken some 3 years to add under the previous team organization. Make sure to read the NAM History page to get an idea of what's changed since. Make note of any features or fixes which get your attention, and let us know of any assistance you might need.

Secondly, try and remember what things concerned you about limitations of the mod back when it was NAM 37, you'll be pleasantly surprised to find out just how many of these concerns and content gaps have been gradually addressed.

Third, if you feel it's too much to take in at once, try focusing on particular features, and make sure to use laboratory / sandbox regions to check out what's going on. Can you tell us what your gameplay mainly consisted off up until NAM 37? Maybe we can help you more specifically with the details you want to emphasize.
