CTD when loading city tile

I’m running SC4 on Steam on a HP Compaq w/ 2.7GHz Intel Core i5. I was playing a city when the game froze up so I closed out and looked into CTD issues (as CTD was happening occasionally anyway). I found the launch option settings i.e. “CPUCount:1, etc” and tried a few of these. The game launched fine but every time I tried to load a city tile I would CTD. I then eliminated the additional launch option settings and the same CTD issue happened when loading any city tile. I changed nothing else. Plugins are identical and were causing no issues previously. Any help is appreciated!

Hiya @ert90,

As you mentioned,

It seems that you had some issues perviously, May I ask that have you tried to empty out the Plugins folder for loading? and in addition, Did the crash of loading happen on other cities as well, For example an empty tile? I just thought these would narrow down the scope of reason a bit.:}

Sincerely,

Are you using NAM?

Your on the right track, as this line should be used. The game is not meant to run on more than one core and the command line will ensure it only uses just one core.
If the command line is not entered correct, then nothing is changed and the game will freeze when multiple cores don't sync together.
Make sure there is a dash(-) in front of each command and also a space between each command, as so "-Intro:off -CPUCount:1". Copy and paste this, what's between the quotes.
I assume you are doing this in Steam- SC4 Manage- Properties- General- Launch Options

One other thing is to start the game and check the video settings, in case something changed. If you are using HD plugins, you must have the Renderer set to Hardware, not Software. Even if you are not sure if you have HD plugins, I would set it to Hardware anyway.

Good luck and let use know how it went and we will go from there.

    I've really got to thank you, Kloudkicker! Ultimately, setting the renderer to Hardware fixed the issue. And now that I've successfully been able to run on one core, not only is the city tile loading CTD issue solved, but I haven't CTD a single time in city gameplay and the game generally runs so much smoother.
