Proof that the water towers aren't working as described. Just the two basic ones. Youtube Video Link

EDIT: Michael was right. There's a glitch in the SC4LOT files for the water towers. I fixed the files, which can be found here.

For those curious, the original building files had their "water source" property set to "Fresh Water." Maxis never properly implemented the fresh water system, so these kinds of lots need to have "Aquifer" as their water source to function properly.

    Hi Michael,

I'm not sure what the glitch is that you're describing. The water towers appear to be working in the video. However, the pipes aren't connected to anything that consumes water. The pipes need to be within six tiles of a building to supply that building with water.

    Hi Michael,

Just to check -- are the pipes from the water tower connected to your residential/commercial/industrial zones? In the video you shared yesterday, the pipes weren't connected to anything, so there was nowhere for the water to go. Or is there something else that I'm missing?

I given it power and no capacity is showing on the towers side it says actual capacity 0 when it supplies 26500 cubic litres of water.

Oh, okay. So I might know what the issue is? Sometimes you need to wait until the next month for the game to process these kinds of stats. Here's a screenshot using the game's standard water tower which has the same issue:

    5f5057b9241b8_WaterTower.png.46ca3acb220df9ff66120ce0cf9d4924.png

I placed this water tower on January 2, and the "Actual Capacity" was listed as 0 for the entire month of January any time I queried the building. Once I got to February, I checked the query again, and the water tower was fully operational.

(Note: If you have the game on Cheetah speed, the game performs some of these calculations less frequently, so you might need to wait a few months for the water tower to display it's actual capacity.)

While the efficiency lights are on but no capacity is listed (actual water capacity), but the max capacity is. Both the holding tank and water towers are broken right now.

Yeah a month has passed and nothing

Is the game running on cheetah speed? If it is, try running it at a slower speed and see if that helps. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the issue might be.

    Well, nuts.

I'm downloading the water towers now to see if I get the same issue. In the meantime, the only other thing I can think of is to check whether your version of the game has been properly patched or not. That's a bit of a shot in the dark, though.

Game version 1.1.641.0 so yes it is patched

So for what it's worth, I'm getting the exact same issue with the water towers. Sorry for dragging this out so long. I'm looking at the files right now to see if I can pinpoint the problem.

Can you try replacing the two SC4LOT files with the ones I've attached to this post? The original files should be located in "Plugins\SM2\Water Towers." If you don't want to remove the original files, you can simply place these files in the same folder. They will load after the original files and override them.

Let me know if this fixes the problem. I was able to get the towers to work with these files, so I'm hoping they work for you too.

@BartonThinks, did you by chance coordinate with Simmer 2, so that he could correct and re-post his lots?

I posted a comment on the STEX file making a note of the issue, but I'm not sure what the usual protocol is in these cases.

Hoping he's OK. Just checked his profile and he last logged on here at the end of March.  He last logged onto his SC4D account since mid-May.

Content Creators may or may not read comments and reviews based on their previous experience. There's no set protocol for something like this, but you often have a better chance of catching someone's attention with a PM. If you have an account over at SC4D, you might want to drop him a line there as well since he logged in there more recently. This is usually just a common courtesy to a content creator to give them the opportunity to fix any issues that may be found.

I did a little sleuthing by checking all the water facilities I had downloaded.  I only found one other water tower that had fresh water set as the water source. All the other water facilities, including all others from SM2 were configured to use Aquifer. Further sleuthing determined that the Water Tower at issue here was his water facility. He did not release another one for another year, and it had the correct water source configured.  There are a lot of possibilities here as to why just the first one was"broken", and remained that way.

BTW, since SC4Lot, and SC4Desc files are essentially nothing more than text files, and thus aren't usually considered part of the content creators intellectual property, you could, if you wished, put together a new upload, maybe naming it something along the lines of "SM2 Water Towers - FIXED" and explaining your findings and what you did to fix the issue in your description. Then just list SM2's original lot as a Dependency. (for the model).  I'm pretty sure this wouldn't cause any heartburn on anybody's part. If you wanted to do this, ust to be on the safe side, you might consider just touching base with @CorinaMarie for a quick "official" read-out.

Yep, that would be perfectly fine to do without stepping on any toes.

Or in this case, until SM2 returns, CB and I will act as custodians for the affected file. So, you can do a fix re-zipped completely as if SM2 had done it himself and attach it here (or send it to us via PM). Then we'll update his STEX entry so there's no extra hoops for peeps to jump thru.

As an other, kind of custodian of Simmer2's contents, I agree with @CorinaMarie's proposal. The best way to avoid any confusion if the original upload would contain a fix or update.
Thanks for reporting and taking care of the "fixing" part, though!

Have been wrapped up with work and hunting down BATs for a new set of lots, but I'll do this as soon as things settle down and I have a spare moment.
