SC4 Tool extra stuff ?

I'm installing fresh on a new laptop running win10 ; all tools work fine except SC4 Tool (only the TE function does). Seems I need some extra stuff (dll ?) to make it work ; must also be an Administrator to run the program --don't know where to find how to do that   [I was on virtual win 8.1... on a mac partition....].

I am also advised to switch off "the Aero theme”. What the devil is that ???

and where do I find “ windows XP SP3 compatibility” ?

I am a Mac little lamb lost in the labyrinth of Windows 10. Whatever (little) I knew of Windows 8.1 doesn't seem to help here.

The program install will have put an icon onto the desktop as a short-cut (I hope). If not find where you installed it in Explorer and copy the SC4Tool.exe then paste a shortcut onto the Desktop. 

Once you have a shortcut, right mouse on the shortcut, select properties (right at the bottom)

This will bring up the next panel after selecting the Compatibility Tab:  Tick the settings as I have below.  even after this SC4Tool will play up a bit. In the options menu, selecting the SC4 and Plugins folders the text will be black on black - this can be checked for accuracy in the Texture Scanner. I also dont seem to get textures in the TE Editor even though it otherwise works. It was compiled several Windows ago.

I'm back and it works -- at least the functions I need (not the texture scanner, indeed.)

Additional to this - I finally remembered (and I have no idea why or how) that there had been a problem with the display of FSH images after a windows OS update way back in 2009.

@null45 made a new version of FSHLib.dll which is used by SC4Tool (amongst others) and which can be found here on LEX to fix that problem.

if your version of FSHLib.dll predates  13 Oct 2009   (I think the original one is from 2004) then get this patch and replace the file.  You need administrator access to do the copy over, Windows will prompt.

This will restore images to SC4Tool and others.
