I'm not sure if it is just my pc set up or not, but when doing budgets on schools and the like, the slider is not very precise and I have to mess around with it until I get the numbers/balance I want.

Is there a a way to use the mouse wheel or arrows to move the slider in much smaller increments?

Thanks

Taking a whack here, but do mean having the ability to move it in smaller increments? like by $1 at a time?

I only say this cause I do notice that it only moves in chunks at a time. With the mouse it can be finicky. Not really sure why or what stipulates the amount of the jump. I just always go a click over what covers the educational buildings. Then periodically check in to make sure they are not underfunded.

I think I know what @skillfulabbot is referring to.  e.g.  44 students and 89 students are adjacent settings on the slider for a Large High School, but jiggling the slider to hit 44, instead of 89 or 0 students, can be fiddly.

My personal solution to that ... I have a large Kensington trackball, in addition to my mouse, so I do two handed mousing, trackball in right hand, mouse in left hand.  The trackball is better for terraforming, planting trees in hedges, and precision work ... like those fiddly sliders!

The left hand mouse is then better for rough work, like scrolling through long, long menus.  *;)

If you don't have a trackball, perhaps two mice might achieve a similar benefit?  I'm not sure if you can always configure a left-hand mouse and a right-hand mouse with separate settings, but some mouse brands come with special configuration windows, which might allow you to have precision for your right-hand mouse, and rough work for your left-hand mouse, similar to my setup.

Another tip that might help, maybe?  You don't actually have to click+drag the slider, you can just move the mouse 1mm to the left or right, and click.

That sounds terribly difficult to pull off. Sure it might work for you, but I certainly can't use a mouse with any precision in my left hand (I'm right handed).

My main PC connects to a TV, so I have a special wireless keyboard and mouse for use there. My wired mouse is a gaming mouse, but I bought it because it's reasonably ergonomic and fits my hand comfortably. It has a "sniper" button on the side, which reduces the DPI drastically when pressed. I find this extremely useful in many situations, not least detailed work with Photoshop / 3DS Max. I literally couldn't live without this feature any more. My wireless mouse, despite being a cheap Chinese one, also has a button to switch DPI, but you have to keep pressing it to cycle DPI options, not as intuitive in use as a sniper button IMO.

From what little I know about such UI panels, whilst we can change the layouts, all the bits that make it function are locked in the .exe. It's just one of those things you'll probably need to live with. Certainly support for a mouse wheel was probably not considered given the date of release, scroll wheels were really only just becoming a thing back then.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
