STarted a new game, ffirst time I have played on this PC and when my neighborhood started building these boxes appeared. Any ideas. The boxes are stamped 'SimCity' . I've included a list of my plug ins if that helps.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there,

Brown boxes are a visual cue of missing dependencies for custom content used in the current city. Basically it means one or more model files which should be present, aren't included in one's Plugins folder. So the game displays the boxes instead making this known.

From your picture, it seems they're clustered on the street sides, so my initial thoughts are this is likely an accessory or tree type mod. I notice you've got an "SFBT" folder there, hinting could it be this one and/or maybe this perhaps? I do see Maxis trees there though, which may suggest it's not trees themselves replacing the defaults (but it might be extra ones). Should such a mod be the cause, you'll need to download and install the required dependencies listed in the readme documentation of any mods responsible. Seeing as these are older items, there might potentially be broken links which we can help you locate if the provided URLs don't go to the correct files. Let us know.

Before investigating, perhaps an idea is to double check you've copied over all your Plugins from your previous computer. Make sure to look in both your Documents Plugins, along with any inside the game's installation folder, which on the CD based game is located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Plugins

Those are loaded in addition to content included in Documents, and so it's possible there's something in there too.

I hope this helps as some initial guidance.

So there is a mod on here that will change those brown boxes to a small red green and blue ribbon. Cyclone Boom can probably provide a link.

I can indeed. That would be the following mod by Pegasus:

PEG - OPPS / OOPS Mod

This can be useful to represent missing models more clearly, since the coloured ribbons take up a much smaller area. With the brown boxes being so enormous, they often consume a vast area, making it difficult to pinpoint specifically where models are placed. Knowing this information can make the process of elimination far easier.
