Introducing Mythicon Valley(Mythicon: Latin; means mythical)

PoseidonBattle4.jpg.cceff8a52c5ee90ac061edaaf636219e.jpg

Mythicon Valley is a massive region, composed of many waters, so Poseidon seems a fitting trademark for a start. This region will require me to conform to the existing landscape. Only small modifications can be made - For example, I may blast away the side of a mountain to allow a highway to pass through, but am not allowed to level entire mountain ranges. I might shore up a river bank, but am not allowed to fill in the entire river. Tunnels for railways and roads are allowed.

This region will follow my grid system, as most successful cities in our real world, do follow some type of gridded layout. My grid system will use the core numbers, that allow for maximum growth and best traffic flow, using the best options for transportation, mass transit and commute times - Commute times can be very long and Sims won't mind that, as opposed to other options, where Sims find plenty of reasons for complaining.

The beginning....

First large city is established: Gryphon Gulch. We also have some surrounding locations, named by the ancients of this region. Many legends surround the Sea Of Sirens, where some sailors say, "Ye Sirens wee set upon strayin' sailors to slay thar souls!"GryphonGulch7710a.jpg.2a605c71fa7bca52513ccc3d5ce42599.jpg

Yes, I do cheat the game, but only for balance and creating a region for a City Journal I do try to be realistic in most things SimCity, but some of these cheats will save space and  make the region more efficient, while balancing everything out. Pegs creations, have also been a great help in making this happen the way we need. PegGarbageGone336.jpg.0dd6c3edc6da57d2ddd4441bd0af3442.jpg

Eight into sixtyfour! The large, medium and small cities are divided by eight, so we want to use those same numbers for almost all things in the game. It is important to remember, every large city is simply made of 4 medium cities, which are made of 16 small cities. In Gryphons Gulch, we will start off in a large city, by making a small city, within it. All city services are crossed with circular/crossed/bigcoverage. Busing is in a diamond shape or a small cross. We use ONLY avenues, with no highways, subways or any other form of transportation, as they simply cost too much, take up too much space and are never 100% efficient.  SimCity secret, since the first game came out: Traffic will remain low to medium, using just busing and avenues. In Classic SimCity it was just railroad tracks, instead of any roads at all! Remember this in SC4, the solution is avenues and buses, with nothing else for transport in a city of sims.

Take your fire and police coverage to its maximum level and every police station and fire station you plop after this fact, will be at max coverage. Use the question mark to hover over your first fire/police and use the slider(Local Funding Slider) to move it to max coverage  area - This is important for covering the entire large cities with the least amount of fire and police stations.

    FireCover65t5.JPG.4dae3e1acf066ee33bce51dab4f161a6.JPG

Just avenues and buses will give you the best traffic flow, hands down. When you reach one million sims in a large city, this method will stay all green or near it, depending on other little things, like the airport, which causes us to make detours in the grid system. I need one of our sims to create a small airport, that handles large transport of goods and large jets - This will help with space. Might have already been accomplished, so I will have to search that up.TrafficGryphon7654.JPG.962cf69a9e4b801a856953f11221289a.JPG

Saving money in a large city: One great way to save a few 100 Simoleans, is too make your water pipes cover just the com/res zones and skip avenues or roads when you can. Doing this in a large city, will save you one long pipeline for water. It's the little things that add up to profits in SimCity *;)

Traffic flow is still a go in Gryphons Gulch. getting close to 200,000 simizens and still all green, using ONLY avenues and buses! Adding highways will take up too much space and cause traffic to go orange or red.

Take note, of the demand bars? I just built up the outer medium industrial cities, so the simizens in Gryphons Gulch are starting to move in. Once they are crammed in to max, I will start to add commercial zones, but we must wait until the simizens are bursting with a need for new socks and cotton candy.

Building a new neighborhood in Gryphons Gulch. Demand bars are balancing out, the mayor is loved, traffic is minimal and we are already getting close to a solid profit margin for the city.

Also, our simizens are genius', with an average I.Q. of 165, while living to the ripe old age of 86!ProgressOneT88o.jpg.dec03390199b1c199b0b330c4e76198f.jpg

We have a new industrial city: Nereids Knole! Gryphons Gulch is doing quite nicely as well. nereids were witnessed in this area by local fisherman, but the Nereids do not love the namesake, due to a lack of ample waterways.

In Greek mythology, the Nereids (/ˈnɪəriɪdz/ NEER-ee-idz; Greek: Νηρηΐδες Nereides, sg. Νηρηΐς Nereis) are sea nymphs (female spirits of sea waters), the 50 daughters of Nereus and Doris, sisters to Nerites.[1] They often accompany Poseidon, the god of the sea, and can be friendly and helpful to sailors, like the Argonauts in their search for the Golden Fleece.

Highways in our standard SC4 Rush Hour, never get much traffic. Highways in our inner cities, actually hinder the traffic flow, as commuters will mostly bypass using the highway. This is because, highways are for long trips from city to city and not very good for the inner cities. We use highways to connect the larger cities together, thus we transport goods and services between them in a rapid manner.

Our region is beginning to shape up! Once our major cities are developed and connected by inter region highways, we will see a population boon.

Lamia Landing was once plagued with lady vampires, until Van Helsing came along and built a big farmhouse.

I quite like this city journal's theme, quite creative and whimsical. Your city building style is simple but effective enough, and I don't see region-wide grids all too often, so it's something of a refreshing change of pace. Keep up the good work, and don't change your style. As one of the few apparently left here with a forum-based city journal along with you I say we should stick together, though I'm wondering whether I should start a branch of my CJ Franklin County in the dedicated section just starting with new content, with a link back to the first 10 years (yes, 10 years - even I have a hard time believing it sometimes, as if I were in a sci-fi time warp or something) on the forum *:???:. I'll be keeping my forum-based CJ current in any case. This is an interesting thought I just had, though one I shouldn't clutter your CJ with any further. Good luck on your future city-building endeavors *:thumb:.

For some strange reason, The Simizens of Lamia Landing, are not wanting to cross the bridges? Traffic is very minimal.

Maybe there are still some leftover lady vampires, lurking about? Van Helsing surely destroyed them all.

The forum will be my CJ's primary residence for as long as it exists, but I am cross-posting to the new CJ section now. So far I'm actually getting more reactions on the forum than I am in the CJ section, contrary to my expectation it would be the opposite *:P. I look forward to further dialogue here, and I hope we'll stay in touch with our two journals.

Thanks for viewing my latest CJ, Naomi57. Your CJ is tempting me into trying the NAM again. When i first tried it, it wass brand new, but it messed with the games original number values and didn't play well with gridded cities like mine.

Thank you!  While I've been an avid vanilla SimCity player for many years, I'm quite new to the NAM.  This latest NAM36 has certainly revived and excited my interest in the game!

You might be interested to know that RHW-2 is as easy to use as Maxis vanilla RD-2, the only downside being no RCI access ... and no roundabouts.  RHW-4 connects to the 4x4 NWM AVE-4 roundabouts, with the help of a little 1x2 vanilla Avenue AVE-4 stub.

There's also options for HUGE traffic signalled intersections, but I haven't played with those yet.

I know, everyone desires a beautiful city, with creative scenery and realistic planning. However, this is how you fix traffic forever in a large city with over one million sims.
