I am having a problem with the mod. The beaches are just a disaster

I am using a full updated Simcity 4 with rush hour and have tried the mod with only that in the Plugins directory. I have also removed the mod to check it wasnt problems with the region map itself. I tried Andreas Roths edited paramater files also to see if that was the problem as well.

This is a lovely mod and it would be a shame to have to ditch it just because of this.

seems like the water's keeping it's opacity as it comes close to the shore... interesting.... if you can upload the Cycledogg files that you're using (including Andreas Roth's file) i'll try to fix it for you

EDIT:

welcome to the forums, lurker!

seems in both files, the minimum opacity of the waters is set to 154. this renders the water at 100% opacity at all depths, causing the graphical anomalies. i've attached a modded version of the original TerrainParameters DAT, it should render Andreas Roth's file unnecessary. i've set the minimum opacity to 5. you might have to rename this file with a zzz at the beginning to make sure it loads after the other two terrain parameter files.

btw, i noticed you're using the original Columbus mod. might i suggest upgrading to a snowcapped version here  or here ?

Swamper, he's been using the Olympic Terrain mod. Please post how you did this so I can take a look and maybe modify the Olympic mod if it needs to be modified.

    Prince of Sims,

Cycledogg has already updated the Olympic Terrain Mod on the STEX. The poster above me prefers using the Columbus Terrain Mod, so I made the fixes for the various versions of the Columbus Terrain Mod.

The fix that needed to be done was rather simple. There was an exemplar with Instance ID of 0x00000039, which handles the beach textures. I removed that exemplar and the coastlines returned to normal. Each of the files in my attachment originally contained the copy of exemplar 0x00000039 with 6 reps. I have simply removed the exemplar from each of the files in the attachment.

The game default of this exemplar has 14 reps for each of the blending properties in the exemplar. CD's copy had only 6, which causes the horrible looking coastlines, as seen at the top of this thread.

Mac Problem: I was able to download Jeronij's "Cycledoggs Columbus Terrain Snowcapped Mod Lower." But I was not able to download the textures for them because every time I try it goes into an .exe file. Even with filejuicer I was not able to get these files: CP_TerrainTextures_No1.dat CP_ColumbusRockTextures.dat CP_ColumbusBeachCliff.dat Remember I am running a Macintosh. Also, I can't even seem to find the link for the textures anywhere. Can anyone help??

Swamper77, I've got the same problem with my coastline when using the Columbus terrain mod. I just tried using the files you attached to your post, and nothing changes. I've tried doing it with all other pluggins removed and still nothing. Any idea why it didn't work? I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

When you zoom right in on the coastline the water looks like this:

Swamper77’s patch didn’t fix this for me so I’ve just been playing around with ILive Reader and found out how to fix it. This is only for the Columbus Terrain Mod.

    1. Download ILive Reader and run it.
    2. Open the Columbus Terrain Parameter file from your pluggins folder.
    3. Along the top of the screen there are a whole lot of buttons. Click on the one 2nd from the right called Navigator.
    4. A window will come up which is split into two parts. On the left side scroll down to Terrain and expand it by pressing the + sign to the left of it.
    5. Click Terrain Properties. A whole lot of properties will appear in the right half of the window.
    6. On the right side of the window find WaterMinAlpha. (This should only be about 9th down on the list.) The value for this should say 0x9A. We want to change it to 0x00.
    7. So right click on it and click on Edit Property.
    8. Another window will pop up. Down the bottom of this window it should say Values as text. In the text box below this type in 0x00.
    9. Click on the apply button to the RIGHT of this. And then on the apply button at the BOTTOM.
    10. Under Value for WaterMinAlpha it should now say 0x00.
    11. Exit that window now just by pressing the X in the top right hand corner.
    12. Now in the main window click File and then click Save.
And you’re all done! Exit the program, start up Sim City 4 and you should see that it’s fixed.

In this program I just compared the terrain properties of this file with that of the original Sim City 4 file and looked at what had been changed. I just made my way through changing one thing at a time back to the original Sim City 4 configuration until it was fixed. Changing this one thing should fix it. It did for me.

    Goodluck to everyone with this!
