MayorTim: Believe it or not...that diagonal bridge was just plain luck.  I dunno how it appeared there, I was just trying to run Mountain Pass Rd. from the shopping center over to Bryton.  It's quite beautiful though...maybe I'll turn that area around the bridge into a park.

i remember the first Caspen. no where NEAR as good as this one. a tip: around the malls, have some rowhomes built. in the city, get some SG hotels and put some around the PanPacific Building and vOLCANIC Nightclub in Darwood. also some of the old SC4 lots waaaaaaay back in the exchange like the peirs and boardwalks would look nice in Caspen. oh, and by the way, for Caspen do you use a large map and cram the city in there or do you use small maps and divide it by district?

ThePeoplesPerson: thanks!  I guess Caspen's transit system is its highlight.  I plan on working more on the highways later...if I get the time.

topcliff: Thanks for all the awesome suggestions.  I'll keep all of them in mind when I get back to working on Caspen.  I haven't been able to much lately cuz this week has been crazy.  As far as my maps go, each county is a square.  For example, Caspen County is on a large square while Arden County is on a medium square.  As for working with you in the future, sounds like a good idea...you've got some amazing ideas.  Ever think of starting a cj to show off your cities?

This is my first time visiting Caspen and I think its really cool and realistic. BTW, lose the not-transparent version of PEG Random Seasonal Trees. Use the Transparent. Also lose that brown mountain. Use PEG rock mods. Just a couple of suggestions! Good work! 44.gif

i've tried a cj, but it failed. how about i sculpt the landscape, you do the transit( i'll amke a list of the dloads i have), and i'll do the major cities because you are great at suburbs and i suck. agreed?*whips out two lawyers holding contracts, ready to sign*

    Update on the Way:

It's been quite some time since the last 'real' update, but it took a while to get my creative juices flowing again.  Fortunately, I am preparing for an update (either late tonight or tomorrow)...but I promise it'll be worth the wait.

Simnation Census Bureau Redefines Metropolitan Caspen

The Caspen Metropolitan area has been redefined and is now properly called the 'Caspen-Oakridge' Metropolitan Statistical Area.  The metro area now includes 8 counties and for the first time ever the Caspen MSA now encompasses over a third of the New Waverly Region.  Here's the latest stats:

    Caspen County: 229,035

    Oakland County: 68,263

    Arden County: 39,269

    Bentwood County: 28,321

    Watercrest County: 21,609

    Rockport County: 6,299

    Carillon County: 876

    Mariner County (recently added): 20,139

    Total Caspen-Oakridge MSA Population: 413,811

Mariner County and Emerald Coast: Caspen's first Satellite City
The Simnation Census Bureau was slightly ahead of the game when it added Mariner County, a large coastal county about 50 miles south of Caspen, to its MSA.  There's already rapid and heavy construction underway in the rural county.  Emerald Coast, a planned city just south of Benson, New Waverly, could be the next big thing in New Waverly.  As Caspen's first satellite city, planners are expecting this city to be a big attraction because of its location on the New Waverly coast and its proximity to the outer fringes of Caspen.  Look for more coverage on Emerald Coast in the next update.

    Emerald Coast, New Waverly

    Mariner County

Emerald Coast is a growing city located about 50 miles south of Caspen just off I-15.  Home to New Waverly's newest and most luxurious vacation resort, Emerald Coast attracts hundreds of thousands of sims every year.  Emerald Coast is also attracting sims looking for a place to call home.  The city now claims the wealthiest residential district in all of New Waverly.

    mariner16pe.jpg
As Caspen's first satellite city, Emerald Coast is quite a distance from Downtown Caspen, but it's not as far as it seems.  As a matter of fact, over 2000 of Emerald Coast residents commute to Darwood in south Caspen County daily.

    mariner27zt.jpg
Emerald Coast started out as a fisherman's settlement.  It eventually grew into a poor town of about 12,000 sims mainly because of cheap property values and its close proximity to metro Caspen.  At the same time, city planners were already planning a new resort city.

It wouldn't be a metro Caspen city without the numerous highways and interesting interchanges.

    Caspen 2 on Hold

Sorry guys, but I have decided to put Caspen's city journal on hold for an undetermined amount of time.  I've been considering leaving the cj alone for quite some time now, but I wanted to be sure before I did it.  I don't know when I'll update it again (or if I'll update it again)...call me fickle.  I will let you guys know what's going to happen to Caspen as soon as I determine its fate.

So why exactly is Caspen on hold?  Several reasons:

    1) Other Things to Do  There are so many other projects going on that require my attention.  I've got school and I'm also about to begin restructuring my webspace (which includes the closure of Caspen's website...sorry about that too, but this site gets almost no traffic anymore).

    2) I've got Developer's Block  I actually don't know where else to take Caspen's development so I'm just going to have to tinker around with it until I decide exactly what I want to do...so many possibilities. 19.gif

    3) Lack of Interest  I surprisingly have quite a few faithful followers (and you all have no idea how grateful I am, YOU made this cj what it is. Many Thanks to you all!) but honestly, this cj doesn't get all THAT much traffic.  So I don't think it'll be a big deal if I take a break from the whole city journal thing for a while.

So consider this my little vacation from city journaling.  As far as the next update, I dunno when it will be.  I could be in a few days, a month, or never.  But I promise I'll let you know what's up as soon as I figure it out myself.  Take care until next time!

Yep, it's official.  This is the end of the road.  Caspen makes its retirement official today!  I had fun working with this region.  Caspen will always be special to me...it's the first city that I created that I really can be proud of.

MayorTim: Sorry, man.  I do feel bad for ending it here but I think it's time.  Thanks so much for the support and the comments.  I am so honored that Caspen made it on your favorites list!  Klondike Delta is beautiful.  I hope you overcome those development issues.

Topcliff: You've been a huge help!  Thanks for the tons of advice.  You really should get a CJ going...I'd love to see your city-building skills in action!

oroen: Thanks, Thanks, Thanks...I'm glad the little exit guide made your day.  Too bad I-615 was never completed.  I had actually planned an exit guide for the entire highway.  oh well.  Keep up the good work on your cj...i'm lovin' those farms.

sloppet: I'm glad you liked it.  Sorry it's ending here but Caspen's certainly had a full life in its tiny 4-page journal.

Everyone: Thanks for taking the time to check Caspen out.  It's been a lot of fun!  I actually never expected to create a city quite this large or this nice.  I wish I could live in Caspen. 2.gif

So what's next for me?  Who knows.  I'll still continue to play SimCity religiously and I'll more than likely continue to work on Caspen a little but I think I'm going to quit the whole city journal thing.

I'll miss it all, but I'm not going away completely.  I'll still post comments on one of your city journals every now and then (keep an eye on all your amazing creations).  It's been fun!  And here's the last (and most recently updated) region view of the Caspen area.  Please excuse the different colors of water (I haven't saved over every single square since I installed the water mod).

P.S. Lol, right as I was reading the Farwell Caspen text in that first pic, there was thunder and lightning. Sort of interesting, eh?

Aw, Caspen's gone, just as it was becoming good. 7.gif

Ah well. BTW, yes, that shopping centre looks a lot better with the slope mod. And also, I rather like the CBD of Emerald Coast, but next time, don't overuse the canals!
