EA answer to install SC4 from the Disc doesn't work

Hello everyone,

I've enclosed how to install SC4 from the purchased CD's. It is a PFD. But you will find out that it doesn't work. I tried to fellow the direction's and it still confuses me how a Tech (someone who should know how) could send out limited direction's of how to install the game from the CD's. Depending on which Operating System you are using, I believe the problem goes deeper than those instructions. MicroSloth took it upon themselves to bork the DRM (SafeDisc) thinger which checks to see if the CD is in the drive. See: Windows Update KB3086255 blocks SC4 from starting. This applies to Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10.

Firstly I seriously doubt you are speaking to a tech, although those instructions are awful. Most people working as "tech's" are simply customer service staff following a script. So if the script doesn't cover things, you are in trouble. I seriously hope this wasn't a script and whilst that support agent may be trying to help you, their attempts are so bad I would digitally burn the .PDF they sent.

Can you elaborate on what exactly is the problem? Installing a game from a disk is really easy, either the installer will appear when you insert the disk. Otherwise, open My Computer, find the disk (will be labelled as SimCity 4), right click this, select open, then double click on Setup.exe. The installer will explain what you need to do from there.

However, if the process is not working or you are having problems thereafter, we need to know some details so we can understand what's going wrong.

The disc version of SC4 did not support WIn-10. Either create a new partition and install Win-XP or else buy the disc-less GoG version.

I had to get the game from GOG and it work's fine. Will put the purchase game up so it can collect dust, lol.
