Following rp2000's comments suggesting that suburban semi02 has been stolen from the http://www.tafweb-trainz.co.uk website. I would like to point out that the BAT was entirely my original creation based on the attached image..

These properties are found in large numbers in the KIngston/Surbiton areas. Most of the buildings from the tafweb site are renderings of properties from this same area and I have never seen this site until mentioned by rp2000.

Kingston and Surbiton typify most of UK suburban srchitecture.

Following the discovery, by baco, that guinea was using the tafweb site to source trainz buildings I looked through the buildings available and noticed some that were scarily close to what you had released.

Plagiarism is quite common in the SC4 community. Please accept my apologies for suspecting that you had gone down that route.

they look too detailed to be trainz models but still plagarism does happen sometimes and so sorry that the suspicions came on your buildings, looking forward to seeing more british BATS 44.gif

I have now been accused that my terraced houses have been plagarised!26.gif

Do I really have to post every image, texture and model file in this thread to prove otherwise? I have just visted the trainz models website and there are many examples of generic UK suburban architecture. These terraced houses exist in their millions in every town and city in the UK. The Suburban architecture is also common to all UK cities.

The architecture of UK suburbia is not the property of trainz. Just visit a uk estate agent website like rightmove.co.uk and you will see every one of the trainz models in reality.

All of my models were created using Adobe Illustrator and gmax and I do not even own a copy of 3DStudio.26.gif26.gif26.gif

I also add my apologies to the above. Like rp2004 I visited the site mentioned and thought that you had used those models. I have also had a great deal of difficulty finding this thread as none of my searches turned it up. I found by looking at today's posts so again I'm sorry for that. I shall go back to the STEX and amend my comments.

I love these houses, they actually allowed me to recreate parts of the housing estates in my town in my suburbs that I created earlier. I'd love to see some more UK stuff. Possibly a small strip of shops next? (Like you see in the middle of some housing estates with the newsagents, post office, chip shop, etc)

Do you mean corner shops to fit in with the terraced architecture or a mock-tudor suburban parade to fit in with the suburban semis?

Im not saying you did swipe these models, but if you didnt it sure is one heck of a coincidence:

    copy27.jpg

    First one. Absolutely identical.

    copy28.jpg

Second one. Textures are different, and there is an addition on to the back. Roof junk appears to be identical.

    copy29.jpg

Third and last one. Textures have all been chanced except for the windows. Looks like a garage was added to the side.

Cornershops ideally, although the example I was referring to can't really be described as a cornershop as such. Instead it's a small strip of five shops, with a small parking area in front (pretty much just one line of about 10 parking places), with a hairdresser's, chip shop, Chinese restaurant/takeaway, Spar shop and cafe. It's in a small area right in the middle of the clump of houses with a pub next door to it.

I don't have a photo of it as of yet with which to describe it but I'd say it would probably be a 5x2 commercial structure.

They do look about 95% alike but if you study them, there are some minor differences. I don't know what you did, whether or not you swiped them, or they are your own models, and I am not going to make any accusations. I do really like these models though, so great job!

26.gifFirstly - as stated above I do not have 3D Studio so I couldn't and most definately wouldn't steal them. Do you want me to post the illustrator files and gmax models or come round my house and inspect my hard drive?

ALL of the models shown on trainz are from Kingston-Upon-Thames and Surbiton. I know this because I used to live there. All of my suburban semi creations are from photos I have of buildings from.... guess where?... KINGSTON-UPON-THAMES and SURBITON

There are thousands of these builings, all the same, all over the suburbs of London. The chances of two people modelling, what apears to you, the same building is actually very very high since all the housing pretty much look like this.

I have spent a lot of time creating these BATs and its pretty insulting to be told that they have been swiped. As for the other 30 or so UK houses, supermarkets and shops, I have, I guess I'll just leave them in my own pluhggins folder.

The suburban semi02's decorative features were modelled in gmax as shown below. The windows are recessed, the roof overhangs, the mock tudor is extruded.

THe trainz models are crude and the features look like they were added by means of applying a flat texure.

It would be a shame if you did, not to mention it would play right into the hands of people accusing you. After all, if you didn't release any more it would only cement the idea into some people that you HAD copied them, even if it is the wrong idea.

I think it's pretty clear why one of gascookers models resembles the Trainz building so strongly; they're both copies of the same building (or one of the many identical buildings built on the same estate). We had more than one different model of other buildings like Brasilia Cathedral released within the Simcity community without any accusations of plagiarism ...

And it's pretty clear even without the gmax screenshots that gascooker's models are far superior in their detailing. The other models only bearing a passing resemblance to the Trainz models.

Don't let a couple of comments put you off uploading your other creations. It would be a real shame if the fruits of your hard work and obvious ability weren't made available for others' enjoyment.re
Plus I desperately need them for my UK city that I'm building at the moment. I've got a Sixties style city centre with ugly midrise tower blocks, and thanks to your efforts I'm now growing some suburbs but I'm still desperately short of pre-war UK commercial buildings.

Don't the suburbs look great in a game environment?

I appreciate the positive comments regarding my BATs - and nice screenshot btw. It looks like surbiton or Ealing..1.gif

I have uploaded 3 BATs, all of which have been accused of plagerism - you can see why I would be reluctant to post any more. It takes long enough to create the damn things, let alone then having to spend all day posting screenshots and digging out source material to prove I actually made them.

Furthermore, when trawling around one of my cities, I found another building set I created (UK Terraced House Pack 03) which also looks similar to a trainz model. I definately can't be bothered to post these - despite when visiting a UK estate agent's website I found no less than 14 of them for sale in Tooting...

Can people please now get off gascooker's case.

I made a genuine error in suggesting that he had developed his models from the trainz ones, which came off the back of the fact that guinea had used pretty unmodified trainz models for his pharmacy and bank.

I have accepted the fact that this was not the case and apologised. The gmax shot pretty much proves it and gascooker's next release will surely seal things.

Can a moderator please close this thread before gascooker gets driven away from ST.

The Trainz models have all been made by converting a photo into a tex and fitting it to a simple shape.

Gascookers models are in a different league. I think its a shame people didnt take a closer look b4 posting comments on the STEX, its unfortunate but completely understandable.

I hope Gascooker can undertand where people r coming from on this issue and forgive people for jumping to the wrong conclusion. We r only human lol.
In my opinion the subject should now be closed and you shouldnt feel that you need to respond to any more negative posts on the stex.

Perhaps an admin could take a look at this issue and post a comment or edit out the comments on the stex. I believe in free speech, but having looked at the evidence am convinced of Gascookers honesty. I dont feel those comments should stay......

Please dont stop posting your work it really is excellent stuff.

PS. Ive been on this site quite a while and this is the first time ive been moved to post.

These are all standard UK houses. You will find just about every UK city has a selection of these buildings. gascooker has taken a great deal of effort to make these models. You can see the detail in them as opposed to the textured look on the Trainz models.

It would be a shame if he decided to stop releasing his work as there are few enough UK buildings on the Stex. Although I understand your annoyance, rp2004 has appologised but he did have grouds for susspicion all be it ill-founded and clearly so wrong. This is a great benefit to us in the UK to have your work on the Stex.

Please keep up the good work (don't do a Peg on us).

I wonder wheather the guyy with the Trainz thing is jealous that you modelled these buildings before he did?

any way, love the terraced BATS they really fit in with the Amsterdam buildings! Below are some Liverpool pictures that can echo some of the terraces...

    view005.html

    view035.html

    view032.html

Take that Mr Trainz guy! The pictures are from here

This might also provide inspiration to create your own BATs rather than asking mr Gas Cooker to do it as I am sure he/she is very busy person!

    I am Mr Gascooker2.gif

Wallasey: Some corner shops like the ones in the Liverpool Lark Lane area are currently being tested and a UK pub pack is nearly finished. The shops include Threshers, Nationwide building society, Greggs the bakers and a spar mini mart etc etc - the usual rabble. They all work together so expect a UK building blitz on the STEX shortly.

I am also creating some more 1x1 terraces to fit in with the shops and pubs, so don't worry there is a lot more UK stuff on the way.

I can understand why people from outside the UK have assumed plagerism, as mntoes says, but everyone concerned has appologized and no hard feelings. You should check out rp2004's buildings, if you want some excellent UK stuff.

This is absolutley brilliant - and by the way Wallasey (fellow Scouser as such) thanks for directing me to that site with the pictures of our great City!! didnt even know it existed- oh well. As with all UK stuff there is a great need for it as I'm sure if anyone checked up on the sales figures here in the UK of SC4RH they would be amazed. I love all the UK stuff and can't wait for more - so just wanted to say keep up the great work 4.gif

Man alive, this thread has seen some nasty exchanges! It makes somewhat unpleasant reading, because these are such superb BATs and they're a credit to your skills (and observations), Gascooker.

I know that you're concentrating on the suburban sprawl, but dyou reckon you might turn your hand to the Georgian townhouse, e.g. the expensive Kensington/Chelsea/Fulham/St Johns Wood: in this kind of style:

    chpk0095542_large-2.jpg

And also the 3/4-storey rowhomes of Kentish Town/Camden? Like this:

    nhgt0097368_large-1.jpg

Images courtesy of Foxton's Estate Agents - hope they don't mind! Would this inspire you? I would love to be able to finally play the London map with good British stock!

The sort of townhouses you show are already in production and will be released as UK Terraced Pack 04 - However due to real life work pressures at the moment, these are unlikely to get released until late Janruary/early February (I've only just started them). Until then I will only be able to finish off what I have nearly completed - which will be two more pubs and a B&Q / Ikea superstore.(probably).

I agree that SC4 needs a lot more Georgian beauties like this.2.gif
There are already some on the STEX by EmmaB, I think, and I also noticed someone else did some recently (?)

    Thanks for your comments
