I'm not here to flatter anyone, but this is a great website.  I've been to other gaming and non-gaming sites (like most of the human race!) and this site is top notch.  It's professional and functional (albeit a bit slow at times, but given the size of the content and graphics on the site that is more an observation than a criticism).

A follow-up thought on the points above: doesn't Maxis owe a huge debt of gratitude to the webmaster and major contributors to this site?  This site has single-handedly expanded a great game and made it infinitely deeper and more enjoyable.  Not to be too critical of Maxis, but shouldn't they play a more active role in expanding, developing the game as this website has done.  Granted, Maxis puts out some fine landmarks and other addons, but nothing in recent memory and, of course, nothing close to the magnitude of this site.

 

In any event, thanks to the webmaster and contributors.  Without this site, I'm sure I would have lost most if not all interest in the game some time ago.

Maxis has long abandoned Sim City 4 and now have their attention on other games like the Sims 2. There are nearly 100,000 members on this site which shows that this is the biggest and the best online Sim City 4 community. There are a lot of people on this website who have made this game better for all of us, the modders, the admins, the moderators and of course the webmaster dirk, without him, Simtropolis would never have existed. Yes this site is definatley one of the best community's on the internet and has kept SimCity alive while EA and Maxis go elsewhere. Credit ofcoarse goes to all the Simtroolis Luminary's, staff members, dirk and all the members that populate the site.

I have to say that Simtropolis is my 2nd home. Almost everyone here is kind and great to talk to. I have met great people here. This is a totally great site as well, like mentioned, because it enhances Sim City 4 totally, and not really any other gaming sites have what we have. We are very fortunate!

     I think I'm right when I say that Simtropolis is more than just a video-game fansite. In this community of almost 100,000 members, people have found acceptance, made long-lasting friendships, had their talents recognized by higher-ups in desirable places and have even found love.

     SC5 may not exactly be fast-approaching, but Maxis has to be grateful 100,000 people from all over the world who are keeping SC4 alive. We've done more here than I think anyone ever dreamed. And even as members who have gotten busier have slowly dropped away from the site, assuming a smaller role (I think I'd be one of those ) they always come back, if only for a while, to see what's going on at the little fansite that could.

     So jabezscratch, good on ya for posting this topic. Every once in a while we need to be reminded how thankful we should be that we're not stuck with a hovel like the actual website!

Yeah, same here. I have almost 800 post and I've only been a member since 8/1/05!! I didn't know I would get hooked. It's kinda scary.

 

The first few days I didn't even care about the forum, until I started going through it... and oh boy, did it get freaky... Kinda odd, I remember me visiting the website back in 12/25/03 (Christmas Day), but during that time the website didn't look that good like it does now... Things have really changed since then.

 

Edited: I know.. me too!! I kept telling myself not to go here during exams, but I couldn't resist. I'm telling you they have a brainwashing device... I just can't explain those other nonactive people who haven't been affected...
