Prologue

Lost in the northern ramifications of the great web lies a gray fonted community. Orbiting this community are hundreds of worlds of polygons and coding, appearing and disappearing at a mind blowing speed. One of the most recently appeared worlds is made of lakes, rivers and mountains populated by pixel descending life forms. These life forms were mostly preoccupied by finding a way to get to something they call a job. Most of them were very bad at it and felt miserable.

header7ni.jpg

Luckily for him, Wayne Falsewarn lives in a place where it is very hard to feel miserable for such bad sense of orientation. His town only has a few streets and can be walked trough in a few minutes. Strangely, a lot of his neighbours feel forced to find job so far away that they get miserable and lost finding their way home. Just has this thought past in Wayne’s mind  a girl sat at a table of a seaside café. She opened her newspaper the Newenhamer and was hit by an article with apparently no punch at all. It was entitled “Citizens prefer long commute”.

Thanks a lot! You're the first ever to comment my work.

The water fall is a lot I did with LE based on peg's pond water fall. Someone else did a similar transition so I never uploaded it.

Now that I started the CJ I'd better say under what setting I play.

    Mods:

    Peg rock mod gray granite
    gray rocky beach
    Peg's water mod (Clipper)
Different sets of land textures including CD terrain mod with snowcaps (of course).
The NAM (10xspeeds edited with traffic cop) plus the RHW mod.

Be aware that I cheat for the money.
2gigs of downloads (last time I cheked)

This CJ was not supposed to start now. I decided to start posting it because Shadow_assassin just started a CJ on the same region wich is Flamesrock's Cape Newenham. We both seemed to have a lot editing done on this map so I think our two CJs won't be alike. Don't expect region pictures for a while, it's not ready yet because well... I have a lot customize before.

In the meantime, enjoy it as you please.

Wow, that looks awesome, though, I would've expected it to slow your game down quite badly, with all those seasonal trees and such.

Brilliant opening photo! Although I think you should remake the title, because its very hard to read and blends in with the background.

Nice start though. 9.gif I agree with Shadow, you must get huge slowdowns when the seasons change!

    Keep it up.

    Chapter I
    Strange Habits

Citizens prefer long commute” She was always fascinated by how a lot people choose the most complicated route between their home and their workplace. This fascinated her because well, Newenham’s road are so basic there is most of the time only one bad choice and that’s the one Newenhamers choose. At that precise moment, she had an idea. An solution to accommodate both the creative yet illogic habits of the Newenhamers with an efficient commute for all. And that vision went away as fast as it came. Retrieving this vision was to become her lifetime goal. This is not her story so enough about her.

The café at which she was sitting is at the end of the picturesque Centreport docks.

    seasidecaf0pu.jpg

Centreport is the unofficial capital of Newenham, a colony of the Kenzieland. Centreport citizens largely live on fishing and so the docks is the most alive place in town.

    fishingdocks7ou.jpg

Recently however the Inner harbour was built. For now, it’s the industrial heart of Newenham. It’s also the filthiest.

    innerharbor6wv.jpg

Strangely, more than half of the workers in the inner harbour choose to live in Centerport, crossing the congested Harbour bridge and the very busy Dockside drive twice every day.

    cityplaza5uz.jpg

    harborbridge2tk.jpg

The brighter half of them chose to live in the much closer Westport village. Far away form the market but much more suitable if you work in the Inner harbour.

    westport8tc.jpg

Wayne is far away from all those preoccupations. In fact, he is much to preoccupied by how much his neighbour will pay him to mow his lawn.

    And now the comments:

sloppet: A lot of Newenham is untouched land at this point. So the forest has to reflect that.

Fishbob: Thanks a lot! I hope you like this one.

Shadow_Assassin: I run SimCity on a 3.2ghz P4 with 1 gig of ram and a 128 megs graffic card. Even with that, the game slows down for the season changes and then gets back on track. Strangely, bigger cities run better because as I build I take out trees.

chocolatmax285: I changed it, is it better now?

Alkoala: If you liked this one you'll like the Long Mountain nationnal park.

Wow, nice PEG forest you have there!!!! I thought it was weird how you created that big hill that connected to the bridge. Can't wait for even more.... I love this. (But I think the industrial area is ugly, but isn't every industrial area always ugly?? 18.gif)

Actualy the industrial district is intende to be ugly. Newenham is still in it's earliest stage of development and a lot of Centerport is meant to be shortlive.

As for the bridge... well I know it is wierd but there is no draw bridge in SC4 so you have to assume it's a man made hill built to let pass boats to the inner harbour.

Now, for everyone's interest. I am at my parents home for the holydays. Since their computer can't stand this region anymore I can't work on this CJ until january 5th (so early to get back to class...) The next update will be on sunday january 8th around 10pm (GMT-5) and the folowing updates should get posted weekly has customizing the map for this part of the region will be done.

Thanks a lot to anyone who commented of read this page.

     Chapter II (part 1)

    The Family

    shouse3sm.jpg

    lace w:st="on">

Wayne is a greasy acne faced short tempered 16 years old boy. He does outrageously well at school. That’s not a good thing for a 16 years old boy, especially if he’s slightly overweight. As you can see Enosburg Falls, his home town, is very small and most kids will end up in the coal mine or digging the Iron hill, so school is not a priority.

    3.giflace>enosbugvillage4na.jpg

There is only one school in the village and you have to attend it from kindergarten to the 11th grade. That’s an awful lot of time when you’re alone. Wayne’s usual school day is spent turning the pages of his only schoolbook, ‘’The Learner’s Guide to our world’’, while is mind is floating in the clouds probably dreaming of his last trip in Long Mountain with all his family, especially his father.

     enosburgschool4it.jpg

This small village is becoming a prison for Wayne. Luckily for him his neighbour Gary is about to open up his vision of his small world…

Wayne’s mother is a very kind loving and encouraging person, Wayne’s source of stability. Like a lot of Newenhamers she doesn’t work in the same town she lives. Her workplace is the Office of farming management in St-Armand. Because farmers don’t wait for others to get up and work she has to leave early every morning at dawn and head north by the spectacular Falls Bridge. When you’re only half awake you don’t really notice such beauty.

     fallsandbridge2ge.jpg

Every morning at 7:00 AM she goes down the Chemin St-Armand and enters the farm town.

     cheminstarmand1bo.jpg

She usually arrives early enough to sip a coffee before she starts answering the phone.

    boardofagriculture9gt.jpg

Every lunch break Wayne’s mother and her co-workers eat at the local restaurant as well as most of the Newenham police force.

    starmandvillage5cz.jpg

Wayne’s mother daily routine is for her both extremely dull and slightly comforting. At least she has a healthy family life, apart from the occasional behaviour problems of her son.

So that’s it for the story today. I hope you’ve like and please leave your comment. It’s very appreciated.

I had way too much pictures for only one update so you can expect another update by Thursday.

THIS IS AMAZING. I know how hard it is to make a pond with PEG's Pond Kit (I have trouble making little ponds *blush*)...and this! THIS! WOW! YOu've made an entire lake! It's amazing! And the seasonal trees...spectacular.

Date: 1/9/2006 11:38:11 PM Author: Shadow_Assassin Now that's looking good. But er, what about a region view?
    quote>
I was afraid that question would come... Do you ask it because you want to know wich area I'm developping or just to see what I've done with it ? You haven't seen enough yet to justify a region view. Any way, I'll post a region view when it suits the story and when all trees will be plopped on this part of the map. However I can say that (luckily) we are not working on the same area of the map. What you've seen up to know is in the south west of the map. If I'm right you're working the east side.

jacqulina: I'm glad you liked the story! You're actualy the first to comment on it.

    Chapter II (Part 2)
    The Family again

    thelake0wi.jpg

One of Wayne’s favourite activities is to wander around the lake and simply enjoy the peace and fresh air. Alone… When is father can they both like to take the canoe down to the lake (staying away from the fall is a must, in fact it happened a few times that some people went down to their death). These occasions are the best to talk with his father, both are almost exact copies of each other + 30 years.

Wayne’s father changes jobs around every 5 to 10 years. Now he is working in the neighbouring town of Iron Hill, just south of Enosburg Fall.

    ironhillaerial1fv.jpg

He is working at the Coal docks where he basically loads the ships that go down the river to Duck Bay.
      ironhillroad9vx.jpg

The Coal docks are, as their names imply, a facility of the Enosburg Coal Mine. The coal is shipped by train and transferred to a boat that goes to the Duck docks to be transferred again to a oceanic cargo boat, destination Kenzieland the mother nation.

    cliffanddocks0ma.jpg

Iron Hill is a town of mostly industrial and mine workers at a river split.

    ironhillvillage5hd.jpg

Perhaps the only landmark is the covered bridge.

    coveredbridge7za.jpg

Of course, Iron Hill takes its name from the mine that is the main reason of the town’s existence. Iron ores here are shipped the same way as for the coal because, as you can see, this is the end of the road.

    themine8qr.jpg

This is the Duck bay docks, Newenham’s only transoceanic seaport.

    duckdocks1pe.jpg

Duck Bay is one of the tree isolated towns with no road connection along with Long Mountain and Cape Newenham.
     duckbaytown6sf.jpg

That’s it for today. In the next update Sunday, we will go to Cape Newenham and Long Mountain and I’ll (finally) show you a region view picture.

Great title and opening paragraph.  How absurd a world of polygons and codes.  10.gif I'm still chuckling by the end of the page.18.gif

Unfortunately some of that evil code has attacked your last update and made some of it nonsense [laceName w:st=on>Duck3.giflaceName> laceType w:st=on>Bay3.giflaceType>], 46.gif  I hope you fix it.

Looks like you have a good storyline. I didn't see any 40.gif in the pond.

Great start, I like the seasonal trees.  Trees change colours in the fall, right?  So it makes sense that yours do too.  That also looks like alot of work laying down peg water tiles.  Great job, keep the pics comin!

The landscaping is fantastic!  Great use of the seasonal trees and of all the custom BATs availible.  You have created a believable network of small towns, although I wonder how middle-wealth people could work at the coal mines.

Now, that's looking quite nice. I asked for a region view for two reasons: I was curious where you started the region and also: I'd love to see how it all looks with those seasonal trees from region view.

fgottes: I'm glad you like the story. Actualy I owe the intro structure to a best selling author but saying who now would sell a few punchs. Thanks for pointing 'The attack of the codes' I 'Striked back' and the sstory prevailed over the machine.

hyped_up_boy: It's great that you like it because you'll see a lot of them.

rooker: Yes trees change with the seasons, keep on checking because the Newenham winter is comming. For the lake, yes it took me long...  This one is a feature, that's why I started with, I knew it was a jaw droper. Even after three updates most new comments are about it.

pickled_pig: Thanks! Not all cities will stay small, some are scheduled for extensive growth. For the mine workers well... the story should answer that question in a couple updates.

    A199999999: Thanks a lot! It's very appreciated.

Shadow_Assassin: I had guessed at least one reason! At this point you could try to find where are the towns with the aerial view of Iron Hill, but still the region view is to come very soon. You can guess that one of the reasons why I hold on it is to add all the forrest. Moreover I had to find why the peg god mode pines wouldn't appear on the region view, it turned out that the rendering mode has to be set to hardware.

To all: If I can get enough free time the next update should be late tommorow. Otherwise I'll keep you posted.
    Good night!
