The European buildings are a disappointment

I am very sorry for saying this, but the European buildings don't look European at all. Only some of them do, and even they look Northern European - Swedish and Finnish. The rest just look like a horrible mix of different styles that looks quite bad. Where are the German,. French and British buildings? I also don't like all of the flags flying outside the buildings. It looks so fake. The only thing truly European in my city are the mods. I'm sure the devs worked hard here, but I feel like they should have stuck to different European styles of buildings as in SC13. There are just too many different styles of building mashed together in my city. It just looks so soviet and Russian too. It looks fake and annoying...

SimCity had German buildings that look like they belong in an amusement park or Leavenworth, the Bavarian themed tourist trap just east of the cascades. Combining oversaturated, exaggerated, and stylized European buildings from different countries comes across as turning the city into a theme park.

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Is there any way to turn off the European buildings, even when using one of the three European maps?

The European maps I've noticed are based a bit more on Germany. Bit of a disappointment since I was kinda hoping for more of a UK-based one, with it's variety of different height buildings from mutliple styles and then that awful brutalist crap we put up in the 50-70s. No little single square UK terraces. Guess a more Northern European approach shouldn't have been suprrising since the team are based in Finland, but some more variety would've been nice. Hope the mod community can pick up on the ideas though. I'm not completely disappointed but more variety would've been a bit nicer. Europe has more variety in architechture than to just lable one country's style as European.

Have to agree, the new buildings are terrible- very cartoon like. It creates a look and style reminiscent of a theme park/Disneyworld stereotype. The quality of ignore buildings in general are poor in comparison to SC2013. Skylines wins on sheer scale and flexibility. When you view cities from a distance they look great and quite realistic but zoom in and they don't stand up to scrutiny. The interface is also a really poor example of graphic design. I still love the game though.

Just my opinion about all this situation (buildings styles option independent from the map theme limit): They need to remove all the limits of the game, and let the gamers decide what they want with the UI or mods (buildings styles, the size of the city,  the graphics options, etcetera = how much hardware your game is going to use xd:thumb:  :read: , but no o.O they decide to put limits and hard code on it :boggle:

Because they want users with the basic knowledge and PCs with the minimum system requirements(jk) to play the game, and that is ok, but, the gamers with this PCs can still play the game, even if they decide to not put limits on the core game.

that is not a good decision at all, and a real shame, because it's a great game with a perfect engine . Maybe the modders with very advance knowledge can break this limits:D

I always find it interesting what people will complain about, we get a free update to the game that adds some awesome new things to the game..  CO/Paradox can only do so much in how many types of building they put into the update, I would think that maybe because they are hoping that the modding community will help fill in the gaps..

And maybe if people go to Paradox/CO's own forums and put in suggestions there then they are likely to pick them up faster..

Like adding building type to the districts tool, or maybe a very clever modder will be able to do something like that..

In the end rather than complaining what there is or is not how about helping out by letting Paradox/Colossal Order know what you would like to see in the game..  Or maybe ask the modding community to help out as well..

Since the day of the release of this game, I was registered to the paradox forums :P ; I take a tour to every place of the CS forums, because I was very intrigued by the game, and I read many sugestions about the diferent styles of buildings controlled by the district tool (And it's something that the players never stop to say in the forums xd). I always try to read everything posted here and the posts in paradox forums as well. Maybe in the future I can contribute to the mods. And about the comments, let me tell you something, here in the Internet, everyone is free  to complain about everything they want about the recent games, and more in the official forums (CO and Totalymoo tells to everyone in the forums something about that, and they say that every opinion counts, no matter what.) , but I think that the opinions needs to be very civilized with no offensive words, constructive opinions as well.

Kinds Regards.

Yeah agree in that everyone has an opinion, and well the opinion will go much further (I think) if it is constructive and helpful towards making this game even better.. To me (at least) if the opinion is not helpful or constructive and is just complaining for the sake of complaining it does not really help anyone..
