Hello,

and be welcomed in Wipringsen, - a small village somewhere in Germany.

My name is Lars Trondersen and I am your guide for this city-tour.

The village was founded nearly 900 years ago and lived a dozily life in the past. About 800 to 900 people had their homes here, mostly working in the small farmland area or the forestry industry.

Life was calm and easy there.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But then Max Power was elected as new mayor and things began to change. He wants this small village to grow up to a big city.
So he started a program to increase the agriculture and forestry industrie, as well as an image campaign to get more people to move in and also looked for some people to join his staff.
That’s where I came into the game. Following a job advertisement I took a long ride on the highway to this village in the no-mans-land.
First impressions
VCQX55C.png
A small commercial aera and the poluting coalpower on the other side of the road – not the best visiting card. Not very charming and inviting – but anyway a hot coffee would be nice after long traveling.
Ok – let’s move on.
On the road again
A lot of traffic on the road, mostly trucks with wood or other export-products. Seems the villages business is running well.
Reaching the farmlands
Max Power was very convincing in describing his plans and vision for the future of Wipringsen and how this small village would become a large and wealthy town - a metropolis!.
The first steps were always made and villages populaton raised to more than 2.000.
But these were only the first steps on a long, long way to go. Much more has to be done, and that’s what he wants me for.
.
Ok, here we are. I got a new job and may be I find a small house at the steep river bank – would be great!.
A friend made this overview picture from his sailplane.
There is lot of space to fill …….
This is my first time playing a city building game. After watching hours of lets plays and reading in different forums I should know the basics - eventually :).
I am not sure to reach the level of some presentations in this forum - you folks set them extremly high ;)
But I like this game as well as the idea of documenting the cities development.....Lets go with it.
Regards.
And yes, english isn't my native language. If you should find mistakes, a kind correction is appreciated... otherwise keep them ;)
    @Essex I will do my best ;)
    @Carnivorus Thank you.
    Entry #2Service/Beauty/Growth (a little bit)
    Hello again in Wipringsen.
    These were hard weeks with a lot of meetings and planning. The concept becomes clearer (a little bit).
    The basic decision and main work was to establish education for our citizens. Two elementary-schools were build.
    Even the Teddybear wants to learn at the new elementary school.
    o1pmPGM.png
    And surely, the peoples health is not to be neglected. So: If you got a headache from learning or playing cities: skylines for too much hours – the new medical-clinic will help.
    3UuntEo.png
    “Beautify our city”
    This was done with plenty of help from the inhabitants. A lot of trees were planted, and many walkways  build to connect different places and keep the people walkimng instead using the cars. It worked nicely. And most of the graveled roads were asphalted. Less noise and dust. Looks better too.
    The jurys decision:
    Third place
    N0Nu8MN.png
    Second place
    Rz68xH7.png
    And the winner is
    BfeBZbn.png
    We also restored the old church, which was burned down many years ago. Famous and old “St. Batholomäus” is again one of the villages landmark.
    And thanks to the industrial association for sponsoring a nice japanese garden next to the renovated church.
    wTVsmc4.png
    And to avoid another burn-down of the church or other buildings….. Our new “big” firestation – these guys are always on duty.
    0JHLZhA.png
    The historic downtown (helicopter view)
    MlfzeM0.png
    All these activities, in combination with a growing industry, i.e. demand for workers, worked well and we got more than 1.000 new residents. Wipringsens poulation reached 3.500.
    We are on the way!
    Regards
    Looks nice. I hope they keep that little park int he centre as they grow. Would make a nice historic area for the city as it spreads out.
    Cheers
    Carnivorus  glad you liked the small steps. They are at least the consequendse of playing the first city-building game as well as writing the first CJ.
     89James89 Thank you. I think they will ;)  At least it’s the heart of the village, whatever will happen in the area(s) around
    Entry #3 – Education II/Going South/SHAFT
    So, welcome, again.
    Todays topics are:
    I. - Education II
    The educationlevel is increasing and many citizens become more and more curios. Time to do the next step in teaching the younger folk and build a highschool.
    Whereas this is a village with a long history and tradition we decided to look for a particular architecture style.
    It was not the easiest thing but we found some old plans in far spain and here you see the new
    “Columbus-High”.
    7cEnj1H.png
    Let’s go closer – science don’t hurt ;).
    uhcM4cB.png
    ciaT49v.png
    II. – Going south
    Our rural industry is crowing steadily and calling for more workers on farms or in lumbermills.
    Meanwhile all properties in the historic areal are in use and so we had to designate a new spot.
    Obviously the free fields on the southern border seems suitable and we started  the development. Some unpaved roads, waterpipes, electricity – we couldn’t prepare it so fast as the people moved in and raised their homes
    INqhgK6.png
    So far population jumped up to 6.500 and industry is at the moment well-staffed.
    But do not think the managers were satiesfied. No way!
    The next important concern came right up. They wanted SHAFT.
    III. – SHAFT
    Industrie always wants to grow; in production numbers, sales and profits.
    To reach their goals the Industrial-Association of Wipringsen demanded workers with higher qualifications – aquired not only by practice  but also theoretical studies.
    Their suggestion was frightfully expensiv as our budget has been maxed out for building and establishing “Columbus High”.
    After long discussions and calculations with a sharp pencil we got a “GO” from the mayor.
    And here is the result – here is SHAFT
    ujtOoYM.png
    The “Senior Highschool for A gricultur and Forestry Technologies”.
    iVkljGC.png
    9XHdwvZ.png
    Impressions from today
    A hot job.
    r9l2fo9.png
    I love the smell of fresh felled timber.
    XJOtP1k.png
    Tractorparade at Shaft opnening ceremony
    UWSA0D3.png
    But now I am going back to the town-hall and raise the tax rates for the industry!
    Regards
    The location of that high school is very nice. I think all students love learning riverside ;)
    Also the combination of farms with that university looks very interesting. Good job!
    Loving the new highschool and governmental building. Sure does look like the economies booming to afford that tractor parade, those things don't come cheap!
    @ Carnivorus Thank you :)
    @ 89James89  Thanks. The „parade” comes mostly from the mysterious way the game handels im-/exports. I have nearly the same amount on importing farm-goods as the city exports – each about 1200 units. This causes the immense traffic.
    Forestry on the other hand works well – enough production for supplying the own industrie without any imports, the surplus goes out.
    @ Ultimate727 Thanks. I was very happy to find this nice mod. My idea was that the “falling pillars” are a good reference to the tree trunks i.e the forstry industry..
    No, I live in germany: But this is a common deception. ;)
    Entry # 4 – Expansion
    The village seems pretty enough to attract people to move in. So we need more space for them.
    I see you tend to grow towards your highway with high dense buildings just like I do :D
    Did you already run into noise sickness problems? That's what occurs a lot in my cities where I get near the highway...
    @Carnivorus Atm I don’t see problems. There is a buffer with trees and offices between highwax and residential zone. However, all residential and most office-buildings reached the highest level. The ones who don’t are complaining a lack in services.
    Entry # 5 – Traffic, traffic and …….. you well know: traffic
    So here we are again - hello!
    With a population of 18.750 people the first chapter of Wipringsen’s city-journal is at its end.
    But there is more to come!
    ++++REUTERS++++DPA++++TASS++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    +++++ #Newsflash# +++++
    County-rights for Wipringsen!?
    Wipringsen – what? You may ask and you are not alone with that. Only less than 2% of the people we asked in our spontaneously survey knew it.
    It’s a small village in the west. And it is a very rich one. Because it owns about 100 skm of land. The claim is based on some very old  documents found two years ago in the townhall cellars.
    It´s not just the fertile land or the large woodlands that make this area so valuable but the rich deposits of coal, rare ores and oil supposed by geologists.
    Certainly the government wants to earn the money themselfes and filed a lawsuit against these documents. But with no success.
    At the High-Court trials a group of experts declared the documents as authentic and more important,  as suitable with the common law.
    Max Power, mayor of Wipringsen, said that he was always sure to win and the residents were very satisfied with the judgement. There village is now the capital of new “Chequer-County”, named after the chequer-trees, the most common tree in this area and basis for the forestry industry of Wipringsen. Also this verdict provides a great future for the this region.
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++END+++++++
    First explorations
