Car parking in center of avenue

I used to live in a city called Invercargill in New Zealand. Besides the oddity of the street names largely being named after rivers in Scotland and England and having a marvelously over-engineered network of avenues (for the rather small city population), the city features car parking in the center of avenues:

I am thinking that center parking kind of defeats the purpose of avenues, which is having smoother traffic flow in the middle lanes, and they might just get away with it because the avenues aren't even remotely near capacity. But anyway, have people seen instances of this in other cities?

Would this example from Bochum (Germany) count? I'm not sure whether you'd really call this street an "avenue", though. Although it technically has 2 lanes in each direction, the right lane is blocked by (legally) parked cars in both directions in most places (albeit not evrywhwere). If you look closely, you see that the parking space took the place of a former tram line that now runs under the ground.

Yes! Is pretty common in small towns in Chile, specially central coastal ones, where road infraestructure is overdimensionated 10 months of the year, but in summer recieves aproximately 2 million tourists from the capital. Here, an example in Las Cruces:

Biscayne Boulevard in downtown Miami, Florida has parking in the middle.

Not an uncommon sight in Germany I'd say. This is the first example that comes to my mind, in Berlin.
