Cities: Skylines :-  Highrisers

Welcome guys, This will be a thread dedicated to my second Cities Skylines project, highrisers!

Nice work Phenakist, I have subscribed to a few of your things already. You did a fantastic job on Burj Al Arab, Looks so good in game! These are some well designed buildings as well! Keep up the good work :)

Quite sad that you have only used a 512 texture for them, a 1024 would have made them much crisper.

Also check the floors options in the asset editor, you can set the interval between florrs so you'll have the reflections matching the building.

Oh yeah and I really like the admiralty tower, I love the design. You just pasted the wrong link for it, here it is : http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=418144542

Good spot on the link fault, changed!

For some reason the link appears to be broken, I have 100% used the correct link and it still is showing gunwharf building lvl5 not my Admiralty tower.

My goal was to keep the amount of data to an absolute minimum, although I have seen a few works that use 3000tri's and 1024 texture res. My next goal will most likely include the level of detail because I have been holding back to keep below 1000 on these buildings

I really like your buildings, they fit the Skylinesstyle very well, but I have one question. The Admiralty Tower grows on a 2x3 lot, how did you do that? Did you something special? Whenever I create a lot, its allways either 1x4, 2x4, 3x4 or 4x4, depending on the wight of the building:

    problemofb9s.jpg

My Pivot is proberly set for a 3x2 building, the building fits 3x2 and still, if I put it into the asseteditor, its on a 3x4 lot.

Sorry for bothering your thread with my problems :( , but this is a thing that bothers me for a while.

Thats quite alright, not bothering at all. Honestly I do not know if I did anything different for it to spawn on a 3x2 but maybe my process can help you,

When I finished the model I made sure to apply any location//rotation//scales before exporting the .fbx file, then in the game asset tool I loaded up a 3x2 building, from memory by default it wanted my tower to also be 3x4 or something along those lines, but I changed it to spawn as a 3x2.

I did test the building and it spawned on a 3x2 plot. Hope this helps, sorry I can't be more specific!

Thank you for the fast reply :)

Mh it has to be some sort of asseteditor problem then, because your progcess is pretty much the same to mine. I can change the breadth, I just can´t change the depth ( it allways stays 4, even though it says 1 or 2 or something).

The weird thing is, I can change breadth and depth when I create a firestation or a school or something different ploppable :P. Guess I have to wait for 1.0.7c, they fix some Lot problems, thank you for your help :)

Very simple solution: dont Unwrap. As long as you used only 1 Texture in Sketchup, you just need to export from 3ds max again, and the textures will look fine in Cities skylines ;)

Well, but, it has more than one texture, like the boat. :c

Ratones, sorry I am not sure if I know how to help, I use blender + Gimp. I have no experience with sketch up or 3ds max.

One question I do have is when you join them all to make it one object instead of seperate items, is it this is what is messing up your texture?

Furthermore if you are struggling with texturing, it would be possible to make the boat an asset prop that you place later on, so it has its own texture/object information

Yep, i was thinking about separating the boat from the rest, to make it easier. I am also unexperienced. How is this process on blender? All manual work? Or automated?

Spiral tower looks quite nice! Windows look a bit large, but it's not a deal-breaker. Definitely need to get some LODs in there, though ;)

I don't know what the problem is, however I cannot update the f&^&ing gunwharf tower.

I have done so much in the past 1-2hours to update it and it just will not work. The only conceivable way to do it for this damn thing is to delete the whole file from steam workshop and reupload it because usual update methods are refusing to work...but honestly, im just sick of tinkering this damn thing now.

Finally did it. It wasnt liking that i renamed a part of the asset, so wasn't registering. Done now, enjoy! :P

Yep just saw them ingame, they look much better now.

Sadly the gunwharf grows now another color (I prefered the other one) but it must be one of the mysteries of the asset editor... this will get fixed soon by CO I hope.

Great job with these, much needed variety that looks good but doesn't stick out too much.

The colours are odd. They should be growing in 4 colours, however I did see somewhere that this is an issue. If the colour is really disliked I will go through the grueling task of reuploading it again to be a more neutral blackish/greenish building again, but only if you threaten me with taking your own life :P
