Zero Taxes!

Can you run a city on 0 taxes? Sure, you can have no services, but I'm talking about normal sustainable living.

I was able to create an alloy exporting city lucrative enough to reduce the tax rate to zero while still making 178K a month. Of course, I still have full services, transportation, and even education, without bonds!

In my opinion, the tax rate is a measure of your economic efficiency. If you need a higher tax rate to remain solvent, your not being financially efficient. Which would mean a zero tax rate is perfect economic efficiency.

Of course, you can have a low tax rate by not having a lot of things like schools and transportation, but being able to afford the full plethora of services while maintaining a low tax rate, is to me, a high measure of organization.

[You can see in the photo I have every service available]

How have you kept your tax rate low, and by what other measures would you rate the economic efficiency of your city?

I find it very easy to have 0% taxes with any of the specialization cities.   But non-specialized cities (i.e. RCI only) it is extremely difficult, if not impossible to get a tax free city.

I guess to me any city with a positive monthly balance is economically efficient.  Maybe not 100% efficient.

Myself, I try for highest tax possible and still keep my sims relatively happy.  I can get up to all 16% tax rate (low-wealth only city) and not have to play whack-a-mole with abandoned buildings.  It is really tough to accomplish as you need to focus on maintaining very high happiness all game, so by late game you can sacrifice the few unhappiness you'll lose with such high taxes.

I find the biggest key to the game is education.  It will easily pay for itself and may actually provide a profit from all of the things it brings your sims.  (happiness. less crime, less fire, less germs, solar power, tech levels, etc.)
