Running Steam in offline mode

Hi, how am I supposed to validate to run in offline mode?

 

I've installed steam and installed the game, which runs fine. However, if I switch steam to offline mode I am no longer able to launch the game. Instead I see the message: "failed to contact key server". Has anyone succeeded in launching and running this game offline?

When first starting the game, it needs to perform a one-time activation using your license key.
 
Try signing into Steam with online mode, and make sure you've got an active internet connection. Once the key is validated, the game should be able to run completely offline as intended.

Would you/someone mind posting a screenshot of this? As I'm new to Steam & am having an issue with doing this & wondering if I'm doing it right  

 

EDIT: On a side note; I notice this game is not on the Steam list https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-WUSF-3601#which

It seems the problem was related to the popup message that Steam generates displaying the CD key. Probably it needs to be in online mode to display this message correctly. When in online mode I checked the box for not displaying the popup again, then went to offline mode and everything was fine. Switching between online and offline mode didn't work for me before doing this.
