Cargo Train Station bug

Every time I plop in a cargo train station the game eventually freezes and CTD's after a minute or so. It's the only major bug I have found so far and I wonder if anyone else has experienced it? Hopefully this should be addressed in the next patch.

Can confirm this. Had one CTD before today and now I got hit by a swarm of them. Plopped a cargo station down close to my current city limit and withing 30 seconds it crashed. Managed to save the save game by quickly load and delete. Several more tries and the same thing. Placed it further towards the middle of the map and so far only one crash after a few minutes of idleing. Cant confirm if this one also was because of the cargo station thou.

I have not experienced that myself, but I noticed something else which struck me as a bit broken. Cargo station causes a LOT of traffic, since only a few trucks can go in at a time... so there is a massive queue of trucks waiting outside. But maybe that just me sucking at network planning.

 

About the CTDs though, and while we wait for patches, make ample use of F1 (quicksave) or just save a lot I have like 50 different savegames for my city so I can go back in time to any point in history

I noticed the exact same thing. I built the cargo station more in the middle of the map and it was about two minutes before the game crashed.

I had no problems with the cargo stations so far. Could these CTDs be caused by a lack of system ressources? My computer isn't a state-of-the-art thing, it's like 3 years old...

Another thing I noticed is that it seems to freeze when I pause the game overlooking the station. Happened twice so far. I should probably get my ass of the chair and register on paradox and post there. Not sure about system resourses because this city is quite small so far and on another city that was 90k+ didnt have any problems.

I have unlocked all 25 tiles and my city is running smoothly, the frame rate may drop a bit when I go from one end to another very quickly. I placed in the cargo station when Tamboria was pretty small, when it covered two or three city tiles, but still it crashed every time. Also my computer is even older, it's about 4.5 years old, I know this because I purchased it to play Civ 5 when that game came out in 2010. All I know is that the cargo station is bugged and there needs to be a patch to address this.

You are telling me you won't play this game until a patch is released to fix an issue only you and a handful more people are having? *twitch* Yeah, happy waiting.

 

I don't think it's the station per-se thats causing your CTDs. It will probably be either a Mod you've installed, or your machine specifications or settings, as TekindusT mentioned.

 

May be wrong though, but still strikes me as weird that only a couple of people should be experiencing this if it was indeed a station bug. In any case, best of luck, hope you can find a solution soon : )

I am still playing CS, I'm just not using the cargo station because there is always a prompt CTD afterwards. So far it is the only item that does crash in the game.

Just got the same problem with my cargo ships. Multiple times. Generally when I'm viewing on mid to close distance and rotationg and panning. Will try a different map later and see if the same thing happens. Could be some mods perhaps but will have to test more.

Well whatever is causing it, I've certainly not noticed anything myself, I'm sure proper bugs for the most part will be fixed, there are a number of issues with rail, it does feel a bit unfinished to me, but I have confidence that Paradox will support the game and resolve them, eventually.

 

That said, I would check if this bug occurs without using the 25-tile unlock, the game developers will only support the vanilla game insofar as bugs are concerned? I'm using this mod too (there are a few, so perhaps not the same one), have an extensive cargo/rail network and have seen no issues in many hours play.

 

Guess I'm pretty lucky as I've a reasonably new PC with an i7, 16GB, SSD and Nvidia GTX 750ti to run the game, performance is flawless so far, up to 75k cims on one map with 8 tiles and 55k on a second with all 25. So perhaps a combination of mods/performance could be an explanation here?, otherwise it may not be a common bug, in which case perhaps it's worth checking if the bug's been properly reported in the Paradox forums. Personally I'm really struggling to keep up with things like those forums (and the Steam Workshop), too many updates to wade through, Information overload on this scale causes me to move on before my head hurts.

Forcing the game to run in DX9 (instructions in linked thread) allowed me to continue playing.  I'm not sure if the patch out today addressed this issue.

I'll check tomorrow if I can place cargo train stations without the game crashing. It would be nice if the patch has fixed that problem.

That explains my crash when following my passenger train line at the last leg of its journey. It makes a loop but the starting/ending passenger train is between two cargo train terminals and I have to use 3 lines of rail with 1 line exclusive for freight, one exclusive to passengers, and one that can be used by both with some difficulty but is used mostly as a bypass. This means that the camera has to rotate in some odd ways to follow the commuter train. I was wondering what could have caused the crash but now I know.

EDIT: Seeing as my game was patched this morning and my crash happened an hour ago, I am almost certain that the bug/crash has not been fixed.

Just got a chance to play with the 1.06b patch last night - had 3 almost immediate frozen computer sessions.  Hadn't had any crashes since playing from 3/10 until last night.

 

Two were when the train station was in view while trying to rezone the area.  The 3rd happened nearby but with the train not in view.

 

In all instances the game would freeze and audio would halt with whatever the last noise still being held.  Cursor and interface in both game and Windows would be locked.  Had to hard power off and on to resolve.  Will be posting at paradox forums at some point this weekend.  Overall, still better than the numerous SC4 CTDs I've dealt with

After the patch was installed I found this bug has disappeared in my city. I can place all the cargo train stations I want and there is no freezing or CTD.
