Noisy Shadow

Hey there,

I was just wondering, whether I was the only person experiencing noisy shadows (next to houses, underneath bridges, all around tress), which seriously decreese the graphics quality all throughout the maps?

Also these noisy patches affect dark house facades: The darker they are the more noise, which is quite ugly.

Maybe the anti-aliasing is not working at all?
I put the graphic settings to the highest and have a graphics card as well as cpu at the recommended requirements (nvidia gt660 ti boost, amd fx6300), so I really don't understand how the graphics look so poor. (Although I just upgraded my hardware for this game, might I have done something wrong there? Like to low of a current available from the power supply and therefore ineffective gpu cooling?)

Here there are some example screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/ghHlo#0

There are some different things that you can try, if you haven't already.

1  Your video card may be able to handle more than the highest settings in the game. You can go into your nvidia control panel (right-click on the desktop) , select 'manage 3d settings'  then choose/add cities skylines. Then change whatever settings higher that you want to try. I did all the antialiasing and texture settings on mine (gtx 650 ti boost) and I think it helped quite a bit but I can't remember because I also then did this:

2. You can get a mod on the workshop called the 'dynamic resolution mod' (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406629464). I don't know if it helps with shadows but for antialiasing it made a huge difference for me.

In game you press F10 to bring it up. Then you need to be above 100 to start seeing a difference. I ran mine at 150 (it goes up to 250) because after that the framerate really started dropping.

3 This last one might be the only thing you are after though. I haven't tried it, but this mod is called 'Disable FilmGrain Effect' (http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=406018056&searchtext=)

From his screenshot, although hard to see, it does kind of look like that's what it does.

    Thank you zimmie!

Infact I got the same graphics card, had the numbers wrong in my head. I'll give it a shot now with the different settings and tweaks hoping that there will be an improvement.

In the new patch of the game look for a new slider option in the video settings. I think it's called 'film grain' or something. If you turn that down all the way, it should resolve the issue.

I just had to turn off the film grain. My vision usually looks like the setting at 30% (I am the only person I know who experiences visual snow/grainy vision) but before I turned off the film grain setting (it was set to 100% before the patch), my natural vision (the way the real world looked around me) looked like the setting around 75%, which is really bad if you can imagine.

For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11
