I'm at 10% with happiness in the 80ties and a stagnant population of 40k...

Depending on which services I provide, desired hapiness, and desired growth rate in addition to the obvious desired amount of revenue, I go anywhere between 6 and 12% while usually sticking between 8 and 10%

--Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

Ideally, setting tax rate is like maneuvering an aircraft, to balance lift and weight, thrust and drag.

I just tend to go Scandinavian on my cities and leave the tax rates at 11%, and provide every service my cims need. It keeps everyone, myself included, happy.

I haven't touched taxes yet, except giving specific tax breaks via district policies. I guess you can translate that as "I don't have any money issues".

Obviosly in big cities those who live less dense (=low density) pays more taxes than those who stuff into block of flats. Then again I like my taxes scandinavian: progressive, but then again there seems to be no big gaps between income groups... Like in scandinavia there aren't. Surely in Cities too there are those cims who make extra money through way of education education education -> well paying job.

I remember many people crying that SC4 is hard because high tech was not easy to get... Well it's darn easy just educate your populace how else they're gonna do a high tech job? :)
