Cant start SC4 on Windows 8.1

I got a new computer, so I installed Steam and SC4 on it. My other laptop ran the game fine running windows 8.1, but this one will not start it at all.

 

I've tested the specs and I have better than the recommended. I've tried changing the start up settings to run without the intro, I turned on custom resolution and windowed mode on and off but nothing has worked.

 

Any help would be great, thanks!

Check out thread, especially the graphics settings if you are experiencing CTD's upon startup of the game, also make sure you've applied all the patches to your game.

If you got the game from Steam, it should be version 1,1,641,0 and doesn't need patching.  Do check to make sure you have the right one because we have seen some errors.

 

As a test, find the SimCity 4.exe file (wherever Steam has stashed it) and double click it to see if the game will start from there.  If not, the do tell us what happened exactly.  If you have an exception report, the first 20 lines would be helpful to see.  The rest is garbage.

 

Having found the game file, after you try to start it, the contents of the file .../Apps/<your system id>-config-log.txt would be good as well, as it tells us what the game saw.

Thank you both for the help, I ended up solving the problem with Origin's tech support. 

 

IF ANYONE ELSE IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I dragged the SC4 folder from my documents to the desktop, then the game started.
