Dual-Carriageways

So here in Europe we have roads that are called “dual-carriageways” They are roads that are commonly used to connect towns, often in rural areas.

They are 2 lanes in one direction and as seen in the picture usually look like this. They allow higher speed traffic, but are not highways/motorways.

I have studied the NAM manual, but still have no idea how to best use it to get this kind of road layout.

Which piece of the NAM would I use? How would/should I start and end these roads between towns?

Any tips, tutorials or guides would be greatly appreciated. As I said in a previous post, I thought I was a fairly smart guy until I started playing SC4+NAM, the complexity is tough going sometimes.

Thanks for your help

It's getting kind of hard to believe things are going to get better. I've been drowning to long to believe that the tides going to turn.

Success simply consists of getting up one more time than you fall.

By NAM standards, that's an RHW-4. All of the following would, depending on your definition, fall under the category of RHW: highway, freeway, expressway, interstate, divided highway, dual carriageway, limited access road.

Try reading through the RHW User's Manual (same place as the NAM manual) but beware that the information in there is years outdated and current developments would make that manual obsolete, and any existing RHW tutorials on Youtube should also be taken with the same grain of salt.

I like to use the Project Symphony (Maxis Highway Override) for the bulk of my Dual Carriageways, I normally reserve RHW for proper motorways although as PS interfaces easily with RHW-4, you can use that to mix things up for example when you want a single tile median for a stretch. In the UK Dual Carriageways usually have the same speed limit as motorways, so this approach can work really well whilst keeping the speeds pretty realistic.

Head over to my Lot and Mod Shack to keep abreast of my latest developments.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

New to the NAM? Check out my tutorials on YouTube. Latest upload: How to: RHW - MHO Roundabout Interchanges. (Nov 25).

p.s. - I'm MGB over on SC4D and a member of the NAM team.
