SC4 Mapper installation issue

I recently got a new laptop computer and was in the process of installing some programs that I had on the old computer.  I download the most recent SC4 Mapper and tried to install it.  Everything apparently installed okay, but immediately after the install was finished my anti-virus (Norton 360 v21.6.0.32) said it was investigating suspicious activity 'Suspicious.cloud.9'.  After it was finished I received the message 'Security Risk as been removed.  SC4Mapper.exe is a security risk and has been removed.  You computer is safe'.  When I checked the installation folder, it looked like everything was there except the SC4Mapper.exe file.

Has anybody else experienced this?  Is the SC4Mapper program corrupt?  How can I get around it (if I even should)?

I also use Norton, and occasionally with some SC4 downloads I've received a "WS.Reputation" message. This happens if Norton thinks a file is untrustworthy, and moves it into quarantine. Once this happens, it can't be accessed or run unless you manually allow it. I suppose something similar has happened here, and it could well be a false-positive (especially downloading from a trustworthy source like the SC4D LEX). However, I'm not sure of the significance of the "Suspicious.Cloud.9" threat, and I installed SC4Mapper 2013 last year without this message.

I'd suggest it might be worth re-downloading the file, or scanning it with VirusTotal.

If the error persists, you could always allow it by:

  1. Viewing Norton's Security History > Quarantine.
  2. Then find the entry and select "More Details".
  3. At the bottom click "Options".
  4. Finally "Restore & exclude this file" (more info).

For files Norton flags as suspicious, I tend to run them in a sandbox. This works by isolating programs in an area, and stops them from accessing your system unless you allow them. There are a few programs that can do this, but I personally use Sandboxie which is free to use with a few limitations.

Thanks for the replay Cyclone Boom.  I will check Norton's quarantine to see if the Mapper exe file is there. If not I might try to re-install and see if I get the same results.

I also do have Sandboxie on my computer so will also look into using that.  I'll admit I just downloaded it so I'm not too familiar with it yet.
