scroll problems in region view

So I don't know when it started as I spend most time in traffic view but I realized yesterday that I have serious scrolling issues in region view sattelite mode.

I can't scroll consistently with mentionable speed, I have to spam-scroll in short steps to get back and forth along the region in due time.

in traffic map mode tho, it scrolls just fine. Any ideas?

Interesting.  Do you have a terrain or water mod?  Could be that.  Instead of scrolling, try just right clicking on the map to move around.

Since you are off the CDs, I trust you have patched to 1,1,640?

yep patched to the fullest and yes, I use a terrain mod (chihuahuan) and a water mod (brigantine)

right-clicking doesn't work in region view, only in city view. here, there're no problems at all, only in region view with the sattelite mode selected. like I said, even the traffic map mode in region view scrolls just fine

maybe I should be a bit more clear here, I'm talking about rightclick-scrolling.

edge-scrolling never worked for me in windowed mode

Sorry, I overlooked you are running in window mode.  What is right-click scrolling for Region view.  Doesn't work in full screen in either view.  Have you tried your arrow keys?

On Windows at least, you hold down the right mouse button and drag to scroll the view.  It's much faster and more precise than the arrow keys.

I think that GMT's problem is a glitch specific to windowed mode, which SC4 was never really designed for.  There's all kinds of drivers and settings you can play with that might affect this (mouse drivers, right mouse button settings)

Does it affect all your regions?

Does it affect a new region if you start one?

    Nice rig by the way.

Holy cow!  After umpteen years of playing I never knew that.  I just tried it and it works on full screen anyway.  Live and learn.

    thanks

scrolling with the arrow keys only works as long as I move the mouse around, but to the same issues as right-click dragging, works fine in traffic map mode but not in sattelite mode.

and it affects all regions alike. no matter if old or new.

also, no luck in a vanilla - aka no plugins - setup. not even with a fresh region.

now here's to the fun part:

I have clouds disabled cuz they're getting on my nerves very fast when planning regionwide.

guess what? re-enabling them solved the problem.

perfect scrolling even in sattelite view.

I wanted to set the game to software mode which didn't work (maybe due to the command line parameters?). after the game restart, it was still in hardware mode but the clouds were active and it scrolled just fine.

    weird game... :thumb:

Command line parameters override anything in the game set up.  If you want to try software rendering change to -d:software.
